The Garden City town council voted Monday to proceed with repairs to an office building and shed owned by the municipality, located across the street from the town hall on Highway 31.
The roofs of both buildings, and siding on the office building, were damaged during recent storms.
All of the repair work is quoted to cost $4,050. The repairs will be paid for with money from the town’s general fund and done by independent contractor Ricky Rouse.
A start date for the repairs has not been set.
In other business the council:
* Updated and restated the basic policy and procedures for the town’s Volunteer Fire Department. This was done because portions of the original policy were lost.
* Approved a $250 invoice to place an advertisement for the town in the Hanceville High School football season program, as well as a stadium sign at the football field.
* Voted to pay poll workers $75 and the chief inspector $80 for working on election day.
* Passed a temporary variance to allow a family to live in an RV trailer for up to a year while they build their new house.
* Noted the on-going paving work at the Garden City River Park is nearing completion.
* Voted to allow town clerk Pam Leslie to prepare, certify and file election materials due to the fact current mayor Harden Davis cannot, because he is running for reelection.
