Gardendale

Robbery suspect sought

The Gardendale Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred at an Odum Road gas station on Tuesday. Police Chief Mike Walker said a man approached a Murphy Oil clerk at about 1:05 p.m. as she was exiting the business and took a bank bag from the clerk. He said the man, described as a short, heavy-set black male and wearing a white t-shirt, was armed with a semi-automatic pistol. He said the suspect then drove away in a gold Chevrolet Cobalt, which was recovered a short time later at the Microtel Inn, located a short distance away from the gas station. Walker said the clerk was not seriously injured in the robbery. Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to call the Gardendale Police Department at 631-5722.



Jefferson County

Summer schedule released

The Jefferson County Board of Education recently released its summer school session schedule. Session one will take place June 9-27, Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Erwin Elementary, Shades Valley High, Adamsville Elementary, Minor High, McAdory High and Hueytown Middle schools. Session two lasts from July 7-25, Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Erwin Elementary, Shades Valley High, Adamsville Elementary, Minor High and Hueytown Middle. Erwin High will be offering evening classes for both summer school sessions, Monday through Thursday, from 2 to 8:15 p.m.
