Middle-of-the-night call not as bad as it could have been

There are quite a few things that you can do to make me mad.

I don’t think that I am easily offended, but some things are just going too far. If you hurt one of my family members or friends, I would have to say that would make me upset.

If you rob me, that tends to get me out of my tree, and so on and so on.

Something happened last week that really got my dander up.

Our family was all snuggled in for a good night’s sleep. Around our household, the bed time is about 9:30 p.m. I know, we are crazy young people, but we just love our sleep. My family and friends know that unless there is an emergency, don’t call after this time or you may get a long sigh and then hung up on.

Well, last Wednesday night we got a call at 10:30 p.m. I was in the middle of a good dream when my heart started to beat out of my chest. I was worried automatically as I knew something must be wrong in order for a call to come in this late. I ran to the phone and while out of breath said, “Hello.”

No one said a word for a while, this automatically let me know that this was someone trying to sell me something. We don’t have caller ID, so I have picked up on some of the tricks to these type phone calls.

Irritated to no end, I repeated, “Hello,” this time in a much more irrate voice.

An Indian man with lots of noise in the background said, “Is this Mrs. Pelfrey?”

My name is Pelkey and I was in no mood to play. My response was, “Are you trying to sell me something?” He said, “Mrs. Pelfrey, I would like to ask you a question.” I interrupted before he could make me any more angry by saying, “If you are trying to sell me something you had better hang up now. Do you have any idea that it is 10:30 p.m. and I have a baby trying to sleep in the next room?”

I can guarantee that the amount of my anger can not be described in the words that you are reading.

At this point, he said, “Mrs. Pelfrey, I do not see it as though I am trying to sell you anything. I see it as I am trying to give you a better offer on your cable.”

I was so hot at this point I said, “Who are you with and you had better take me off your calling list right this second.”

He told me what company he was with and said he would do so. I hung up at this point and went to bed huffing and puffing. My husband, Todd, had heard the whole thing. He was as mad as I was because, like I said before, we like our sleep.

He said, “What did they say?” I told him about the man saying that he was offering me a better offer, not trying to sell me anything.

Todd immediately started laughing. I was still too hot to laugh, until I realized how silly this whole thing was.

I had gotten all upset and ready to kill someone over a phone call. And come to think about it, it was a much better alternative than the call that I thought it was going to be.

I then started laughing and thanking God for taking care of my family through that night. We take so much for granted.
