On Senior Night at Gardendale, senior Beth Erwin hit and ptiched the Lady Rockets to a 11-1 win over 6A Homewood.

The Lady Rockets (24-16-1) won in six innings as the five seniors—Beth Erwin, Kendall Thomas, Kaitlyn Casaday, Meagan Poe and Delena Kennedy led the way.

Erwin threw a five-hitter and struck out six as she improved to 15-5 this year.

Thomas led the hitters, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Casaday went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Poe went 2-for-3. Kennedy went 2-for-3 with one run scored and four RBIs.

Other Lady Rockets supporting the offense, included Lindsay Blakey, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Emily Dodsen and Kayla Estes had one hit and one RBI each.

Hayden 4

The Lady Bearcats took the measure of the Lady Wildcats during Hayden’s final home game on Monday night.

The Lady ‘Cats slipped to 11-20 and will take the field again on Thursday at Mortimer Jordan when they face Curry in the 5A, Area 12 tournament at 4:30 p.m.

Cullman jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Hayden answered with one run in the fourth inning and three more in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Mara Conner (4-9) took the loss. She threw four innings of four-hit ball and allowed five runs, only three of the runs were eraned.

She struck out three and walked one. She hit three batters.

Destinee Wade finished up the game, throwing the final three innings. She allowed three hits and one earned run.

At the plate, Conner hit her first home run of the season, when she blasted a solo shot to centerfield in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Madison Durham hit her first homer of the season, a three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth, during the Lady ‘Cats four-run rally.

Laila Russell, Brittany Putman, Ashlan Dutton and Durham had one hit each. Conner went 2-for-3 and raised her batting average to .449 this season.
