Fultondale’s Riane Estes ties two state marks

FULTONDALE — Fultondale’s Riane Estes had three doubles, including two in one inning in the Lady Wildcats 20-0 win over Victory Christian in the 2A, Area 11 tournament on Saturday.

According to the Alabama High School Athletic Association web site, Estes is the fifth player to collect three doubles in one game and the sixth player to hit two doubles in one inning.

After having collected a single in the first inning, Estes came to bat with two outs and two on in the second inning. Estes doubled into the gap in right center, driving in two runs. Estes would come to score later in the inning.

Then in the third inning, with the Lady Wildcats leading 13-0, Estes led off the inning with a double over the left fielder’s head. She would later score on Shelbi Smith’s two-run double.

Then with two outs in the inning, Estes came up with two Lady Wildcats on base and collected her third double of the contest and second of the inning, when she doubled over the centerfielder’s head.

Estes finished the game 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Other Lady ‘Cats had big games at the plate as well. Cadi “Boo” Oliver went 3-for-3 with two triples and three runs scored. Karleena Unlap went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Megan “Mega-Meg” Westbrook went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Molly Brown and Britani Howell scored three runs each. Fultondale is now 21-11.
