Relay for Life

The North Jefferson Relay for Life season is under way. Help take up the fight against cancer. Help Wanted

Royal Family Kids’ Camp is a week long sleep over camp for abused and neglected children. Gardendale Mt Vernon UMC will be sponsoring a camp this summer. We will also throw a birthday party for all the campers since some of them never get a birthday party thrown for them. If you would like to be a counselor for two of these special children, please contact Paul Wiegert at the church office at 631-7631. There will be mandatory training in order to prepare you for this wonderful experience



Registration

April 24 Gardendale Elementary will have early registration for kindergarten students on April 24 from 5-7 p.m. Students must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1. Parents planning to register must bring the following items: child’s original birth certificate, child’s original social security card, blue immunization card, proof of residence which can be: copy of mortgage, signed lease, yearly tax valuation, two utility bills, one of which must be your power bill, drivers license. Registration

April 24 Snow Rogers Elementary School will be registering children who will enter kindergarten and new first graders for the 2008-2009 school year on April 24 from 3:30 until 6 p.m. It will be necessary for your child to be with you. A simple assessment test will be given to your child while you complete your registration packet. There will be a parent conference scheduled the week before school opening for students and parents to meet their teachers.

The following documents must be presented for enrollment: (1) legal birth certificate, (2) Social Security card, (3) a blue certificate of immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one immunization for Chicken Pox, (4) two proofs of residence (utility bills with name and address on them or a rental or mortgage agreement or property tax assessment card), (5) copy of parent’s drivers license, and (6) custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted at this time without the immunization certificate; however, the proper certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 13.

A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1, 2008, to enroll in kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year. For enrollment in first grade, a student’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1, 2008. Parents may call the school at 379-5400 for additional information if needed.



Drama Workshop

April 26 There will be a drama workshop at the school of fine arts at Gardendale Presbyterian Church on Tarrant Road on April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $20.



Walk For Life

April 26 Walk for Life will be held on April 26, the North Jefferson Women’s Center will hold its annual Walk for Life at 10 a.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. This year’s theme is Steppin’ Up for Life. You may call or come by the center located at 1016 Mulberry Lane (off Fieldstown Road) to get your sponsor sheet and begin getting sponsors. Cemetery Clean Up

May 11 Friendship United Methodist Church will have a singing and decoration on May 11. Preaching is at 10:45 a.m., lunch at 12:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. It is also time for cleaning up for decoration. Meal and a Movie

Friendship United Methodist Church has started a weekly “Meal and a Movie.” For the children we will have dinner and a “G” rated movie. Parents are welcome to drop off their kids at 6 p.m. and pick them back up at 9 p.m. However, all parents are welcome to stay if they would like. TOPS

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church, Room 2028. Robert Pliner is the leader. For more information call 608-0606.



Mount Olive



Park Day

May 2, 3 Mt. Olive Ballpark’s park day is May 3. The festivities will begin on May 2 with a parade that will leave the park at 6 p.m. and circle the Mt. Olive Community Center. Saturday will be full of activities including moon walk, super slide, cake walk and prizes. Green Top BBQ will be there. For more information call 516-0567.



Senior Awareness Fair

May 3 The senior awareness community fair will take place on May 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Beechwood Baptist Church. It is free. There will be refreshments, blood pressure checks and entertainment. There will also be free seminars. For more information call 631-4531.



Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.



Fultondale



Dances

The Marlow Ballroom Dance is held the third Sunday of every month at Friendship Hall in Fultondale from 2-5 p.m. Cost is $8/person, dressy casual. Group classes are also held every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Friendship Hall $10/person. For more information call 229-8240.

Our RLC/gifted class is looking for available individuals who lived or fought during World War II because we are writing a novel. We prefer information about the Fultondale, Gardendale and Birmingham areas. We appreciate the community help. Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mother Day Out program will offer childcare for 6 weeks to 4-years-old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. We follow the Jefferson County School system calendar, so we are out during all of their breaks. For more information call 647-9614.

Reunion

April 26 Sayreton and Fairmont School will hold their reunion on April 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center Garden Suite. Bring a covered dish and drink. If you need more information, call 631-4086.



Revival

May 5-9 Temple Hill Baptist Church will be having revival on May 5-9 at 7 p.m. with Bro. Donny Thomason. Bro. Sam Hamrick will be leading the music. Everyone is invited. Nursery provided. For more information call Pastor Chuck Shaver at 540-1542.



Golf Tournament

May 17 A Hayden Band Boosters golf tournament is set for May 17, 8 a.m., at Plantation Golf Course in Hayden. It is a scramble top tournament. The cost is $50 per person or $200 per team. Reunion

June 6 and 7 Please mark on your 2008 calendar the 50th Phillips High School Reunion of the 1958 Class. Other classes are welcome.
