Allred shuts out Lady Rockets

Senior Elizabeth Allred fired a complete game shutout and struck out 10 Lady Rockets as the No. 6-ranked Lady Yellow Jackets improved to 28-12, with a 3-0 win over Gardendale.

“It was senior night last night and all the seniors were very focused on doing well in their final home game,” Allred said. “All our seniors wanted to win this one.”

Corner scored all their runs in the bottom of the first inning. After that Allred kept the Lady Rockets at bay, allowing only three hits—a single by Emily Dodson in the third inning, a single by Kendall Thomas in the fourth and a single by Taylor Powell in the sixth inning.

The win was the second in two seasons for Allred over Gardendale.

“I play with a lot of their players in travel ball,” she said. “So I knew what they can and can’t hit and I tried to pitch around them, because they have so many good hitters.”

In the bottom of the first, Jennifer Tolbert walked, Preslie Cruce single and then Heather Anderson singled, scoring Tolbert. Haley Anderson then followed with a single to score Cruce.

Allred then grounded out to second base, scoring Heather Anderson for a 3-0 lead.

Allred improved to 13-7 this year.

Beth Erwin (6-3) took the loss for the Lady Rockets, she allowed four hits and struck out four. She walked one and allowed one earned run.

Gardendale slipped to 16-11-1 this season.

Fultondale 15,

Minor 0


The Fultondale Lady Wildcats extended their winning streak to eight games as they whipped 6A Minor, 15-0, behind the pitching of Cadi “Boo” Oliver and Camden Marrs.

The duo combined to no-hit the Lady Tigers.

Oliver struck out five and walked one in two innings, followed by Marrs, who threw one inning, struck out one and walked none.

At the plate, Shelbi Smith went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Britani Howell went 1-for-2 with a double and one run scored.

Haley Hill went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Riane Estes went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. She walked once and scored three runs.

Marrs went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored three times.

Oliver helped herself as she had an inside-the-park home run. She scored twice and drove in two runs.

Ashley Hill went 1-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI.

Fultondale improved to 13-4.

Senior Michelle Cheatwood improved to 12-2 as she threw a complete game two-hitter and struck out 12 batters in a 5A, Area 12 contest.

At the plate, Cheatwood and Brandy Worden had two hits each.

Danae Hayes went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Sophomore catcher Morgan Estell drove in two runs.

Jordan improved to 24-4 overall and remained unbeaten in area play.

Lady Wildcat’s freshman pitcher Mara Conner (4-6) took the loss.

Despite the loss, Conner passed the 250 strikeout mark for her young career, which began in the seventh grade, late in the season.

Last year, as an eighth grader, she went 18-8 with over 200 strikeouts.

She threw a complete game and struck out five.

She walked one and allowed six hits, but didn’t allow an earned run.

At the plate, she went 1-for-2.

Meagan Holt went 1-for-2.

Ashleigh Ward went 1-for-3 with a an RBI-double.

Sam Niblett went 1-for-3 and scored the only Hayden run.

The Lady Torches pounded out 20 hits and improved to 9-3 as they won another conference game.

Natalie Axt (5-3) threw a four-inning two-hitter to pick up the win.

She struck out three and allowed no earned runs.

At the plate, Meredith White went 4-for-4 with four runs scored.

Axt went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. Elizabeth Wesson had two doubles.

Robyn Whaley had a double and a triple and Savannah Harper had two doubles.

Carbon Hill 1,

Fultondale 0


Shelbi Smith (3-3) took the loss, as the Lady Wildcats lost in a pool play game in the Dora tournament Friday.

Smith struck out 12, allowed five hits and walked none. She allowed one earned run.

Britani Howell had a single and Riane Estes had the other Fultondale hit, another single.

Fultondale slipped to 13-5.

Oliver (6-2) threw a complete game, allowed four hits, walked one and struck out six as the Lady Wildcats (14-5) got back in the win column.

Haley Hill powered the offense by smashing her third home run of the season, a two-run shot.

Hill went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs.

Britani Howell went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored one run. Shelbi Smith had one hit and one RBI.

Oliver had one hit and one RBI.

Riane Estes had a double.

Monica Roscoe went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Camden Marrs had one hit and one RBI.

Chelsey McCombs went 2-for-2 with an RBI-double.

Ashley Hall went 1-for-2 with and RBI.

Molly Brown went 1-for-1, stroking a two-run double in her only at bat.

The Lady Wildcats will begin elimination play in the tournament this morning at 9 a.m., unless they are forced to finish up their pool play game against Curry.

At press time, the game was halted in the top of the sixth inning due to heavy rain and may have to be completed early Saturday morning to determine pool seating for the elimination brackets.

The game was stopped with Fultondale leading 9-8 in the top of the sixth.
