Gardendale blasts Woodlawn, sweeps Hueytown

The Gardendale Rockets continued their winning ways this week as they won three more times to improve to 22-9.

Gardendale 11,

Woodlawn 0


Travis Key (3-0) threw a two-hitter to record the win. He struck out six in the five-inning contest.

Key was the star of the game, as he hit two solo home runs.

Rob Mitchell went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Conner McCain had a two-RBI double.

Gardendale 12,

Hueytown 3


In the first game of a Thursday night doubleheader, the Rockets pounded out 17 hits, including four extra-base hits to cruise to their 21st win of the season.

After falling behind 2-0 after one inning, the Rockets offense got going as they scored three times in the second inning, four in the third and four more times in the fourth inning to blow the game open.

Cameron Brewer went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Adam Erwin went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. He drove in three runs and scored twice.

Josh Headley went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Headley scored three runs.

On the mound, Bobby Williams improved to 3-2 as he threw six innings of eight-hit ball.

He struck out one, walked two and allowed two earned runs, both in the game’s first inning.

Gardendale 10,

Hueytown 0


The Rockets (22-9) out-hit the Gophers, 15-2 as they completed the sweep.

They jumped up early with a five-run first inning. The added two more in the third and scored Their final three runs in the fifth inning.

McCain led the offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs. He also scored twice.

Andrew Campbell went 2-for-2, scored a run and had one RBI.

Ethan Powers went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Headley had one hit, one RBI and scored twice.

On the mound, Trey Williamon improved to 5-0, throwing a two-hitter.

He struck out one and walked one, while throwing his second shutout of the season.
