Rockets sweep pair at Oneonta

The Gardendale Rockets swept a three-team doubleheader at Oneonta on Saturday. Gardendale beat Guntersville, 11-1 and then whipped the home team, 8-1, as they improved to 14-8 on the season.
Gardendale 11,
Guntersville 1
The Rockets exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to put away a tight game, as they out-hit the Wildcats, 15-3.
Trey Williamon (4-0) picked up the win, throwing five innings of three-hit ball, walking two and striking out three.
At the plate, Williamon went 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Travis Key went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Ethan Powers went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs.
Josh Headley went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Gardendale 8,
Oneonta 1
Bobby Williams (1-2) picked up the win throwing seven innings of four-hit ball. He walked one and struck out nine.
At the plate, Hunter Graveman went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Williamon had a two-run homer in the first inning and Headley had a solo homer in the fourth inning.
Adam Erwin went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Cameron Brewer went 2-for-4.
Covenant Christian 13,
Tabernacle 5
The Torches dropped the opening game of a Monday doubleheader in Huntsville as they made five errors.
At the plate, the Torches totaled only four hits with Jared Higganbotham and Steven White both going 1-for-3 with one RBI each. Bradley White went 2-for-3.
Tabernacle 9,
Covenant Christian 7
Tabernacle improved to 5-2 with their win in the nightcap.
Higganbotham threw six innings and struck out nine to pick up the win.
He allowed only two earned runs as the Torches again made five errors.
At the plate, Higganbotham, Austin Thompson and Tyler Marshall all went 2-for-3. Frank Doganiero went 3-for-4.
Higganbotham and Doganiero scored one run each in the top of the eighth inning to break a 7-all tie.
