Gardendale



Relay for Life

The North Jefferson Relay for Life season is under way. Help take up the fight against cancer. Relay still needs teams and team captains. Team captain meetings will be held on April 10 at the Alabama Power office on Main Street in Gardendale, next to the Western super market. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Bank Night will be held at SouthPoint bank in Gardendale on April 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. Relay for Life will be held at the Gardendale Soccer Complex on May 2 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. For more information about Relay for Life, visit http://events.cancer.org/rflnorthjeffersonal or contact Stephanie Crabtree at 930-8896.



Help Wanted

Royal Family Kids’ Camp is a week long sleep over camp for abused and neglected children. Gardendale Mt Vernon UMC will be sponsoring a camp this summer. We will also throw a birthday party for all the campers since some of them never get a birthday party thrown for them. If you would like to be a counselor for two of these special children, please contact Paul Wiegert at the church office at 631-7631. There will be mandatory training in order to prepare you for this wonderful experience.



Clean -Up Day

April 12 Snow Rogers Elementary School Campus Clean-Up Day will be held on April 12 from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to help with landscaping and painting (even if they can come for a short time). Please bring any lawn and garden tools that you might have. We would also like for someone to help with pressure washing our awnings. Please call the school office for any additional information at 370-5400.



Registration

April 15 Kindergarten registration for Bryan Elementary will take place on April 15, from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. or 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the counselor’s classroom. It will be necessary for your child to attend registration. A simple assessment test will be given to your child while you complete your registration packet. The following items will be required to complete registration:certified birth certificate (not hospital copy), proof of immunization (blue card), Social Security card, two proofs of residence (utility bill, lease, rent receipt, etc.), driver’s license



Reading Comes Alive

April 16 Author Diane Shore will visit Snow Rogers Elementary School on April 16 for “Reading Comes Alive.” The public is invited to the free event. Shore will give a presentation in the gym for second and third-graders at 9:30 a.m.; for fourth and fifth-graders at 10:15 a.m.; and for Kindergartners and first-graders at 11:50 a.m.



Magnolia Festival

April 19 Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. for the annual Magnolia Festival at the Gardendale Civic Center. Come for live entertainment, featuring bluegrass, pop, Christian music; classic car show, carnival rides, pony rides and inflatables for the kids, arts and crafts booths, business expo, great food including barbeque, ice cream, funnel cakes, etc. For more information visit www.magnoliafestival.org. Our RLC/gifted class is looking for available individuals who lived or fought during World War II because we are writing a novel. Bunko

April 5 Mortimer Jordan High School PTSA will host bunko at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. It is a fund raiser for the PTSA. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Mortimer Jordan’s front office. Seniors from MJHS who attend will be placed in a drawing that night for a $500 college scholarship. Country Fair

April 12 The second annual Morris Country Fair is set for April 12 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the park across from Morris City Hall. The Country Fair will feature crafts, a car show, motorcycle show, food for sale and live entertainment. Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mother Day Out program will offer childcare for 6 weeks to 4-years-old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. We follow the Jefferson County School system calendar, so we are out during all of their breaks. For more information call 647-9614.

April 19 The Warrior High School annual Alumni Banquet will be on April 19. All graduates and former students of Warrior High School are invited. Motorcycle Ride

April 12 Corner High School will have a motorcycle ride on April 12 called “rolling into spring.” There will be refreshments before and after the ride, t-shirts, door prizes and more. Golf Tournament

May 17 A Hayden Band Boosters golf tournament is set for May 17, 8 a.m., at Plantation Golf Course in Hayden. It is a scramble top tournament. The cost is $50 per person or $200 per team.
