Clarence Dewitt Pace

Clarence Dewitt Pace, a native of Daleville, Miss., former resident of Gardendale and a current resident of Mobile, died Saturday, March 15, 2008 at a Bay Minette nursing facility. Mr. Pace was a US Army PFC, WWII veteran, serving from January, 1943 until December 1945. His tours included Italy and North Africa, receiving the Rome-Arno Campaign Medal. He retired from the US Civil Service after 30 years of service, working at both Brookley Air Force Base and Keesler Air Force Base. He later retired from Pinkerton Security in 1984 after ten years of service. Mr. Pace served the S.B. Adams Lodge #884 F and AM as worshipful master. He was an active member of Airport Boulevard Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Minnie Clyde Pace; his wife of 30 years, Bernice Gattis Pace; his parents, John Wesley Pace and Delight Jones Pace; his son, James Darrell Gattis, and his nephew, Jimmy Dotson. Survivors include two sons, Glen (Nellie) Gattis and Gerald (Susan) Gattis; two daughters, mildred June (Doug) Brewer and Myra Jewel Gattis, all of Mobile; one sister, Billie C. Dotson of Gardendale; six grandchildren, Richard Gattis, Travis Brewer, Rachel Brewer, Hunter GAttis, Adam Guess and Grant Guess; one great-grandson, Nathan Guess; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
