Mt. Olive Seniors by Dixie Kuykendall

The Mt. Olive Senior Center was a hub of activity as usual this week.
We would again like to encourage you to join us if you are a senior in the area and looking to meet some real nice folks.
This week, we were visited by my daughter and granddaughter, Donna and Crystal Tubbs, who wanted to join the group in wishing a happy birthday to granddad Robert.
Besides the cake and ice cream, little Easter baskets with jelly beans and the jelly bean prayer was given to all.
A little bag of jelly beans, colorful and sweet, is our prayer today. God’s promise and a small spiritual treat!
• Red – is for the blood He gave
• Green is for the grass He made
• Yellow is for the sun so bright
• Orange is for the edge of night
• Blue is for the sky He made
• White is for the grace He gave
• Purple is for His hours of sorrow
• Pink is for our new tomorrow
Wise words from Mother Teresa: People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end it is between you and God. It never was between you and them anyway.
Our State House Actions
The week before Spring Break saw very little action on senior bills. There were no new bills of interest.
Only two bills saw any progress:
• HB435 to establish an Alzheimer’s disease task force was approved by the House Health Committee. This was read for the second time by the committee and has been waiting floor action since March 13.
• HB423 to authorize state citizens to propose enactment of laws and constitutional amendments by an initiative measure was approved by the House Constitution and Elections Committee.
Although action by the Senate as a body continues to be limited, Senate committees have moved some bills that await Senate floor action.
