Tony and Jan Lunceford drape a black cloth on the wooden cross at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Jan Lunceford said that Monday through Thursday, the cross had a purple drape for Holy Week. The black cloth on Good Friday represented Jesus’ death by crucifixion. On Sunday there will be a white drape to symbolize Jesus’ rising from the grave.
