Gardendale



Relay for Life

The North Jefferson Relay for Life season is under way. Help take up the fight against cancer. Relay still needs teams and team captains. Team captain meetings will be held on March 13 and April 10 at the Alabama Power office on Main Street in Gardendale, next to the Western super market. The meetings will begin at 5 p.m. Bank Night will be held at SouthPoint bank in Gardendale on April 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. Relay for Life will be held at the Gardendale Soccer Complex on May 2 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. For more information about Relay for Life, visit http://events.cancer.org/rflnorthjeffersonal or contact Stephanie Crabtree at 930-8896.



Help Wanted

Royal Family Kids’ Camp is a week long sleep over camp for abused and neglected children. Gardendale Mt Vernon UMC will be sponsoring a camp this summer. We will also throw a birthday party for all the campers since some of them never get a birthday party thrown for them. If you would like to be a counselor for two of these special children, please contact Paul Wiegert at the church office at 631-7631. There will be mandatory training in order to prepare you for this wonderful experience.



Singing

March 8 The Southern Drifters will be appearing at a home show at 532 Garst Drive in Gardendale on March 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. The Camp Meeting Singers will open for them with bluegrass music. For more information call 631-0077 after 4 p.m.



Bunko

March 8 The AEGIS community bunko is coming up on March 8 at the Gardendale Civic Center. Doors open at 5:40 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and bunko play begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30. This covers two people for dinner and bunko. There will be door prizes and a silent auction with items donated by local businesses. There will also be a raffle for $150 cash with tickets at $1 each as well as an exclusive teacher drawing (teachers must buy a ticket and be present to win). Tickets are available at Capital South (ask for Leenise 849-5481).



Arts and Craft Show

March 14, 15 The North Arts Council is presenting their spring arts and craft show at the Gardendale Civic Center. It will be March 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you would like to have a booth at the show please contact Angie Doss at 681-8028.



Magnolia Festival

April 19 Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. for the annual Magnolia Festival at the Gardendale Civic Center. Come for live entertainment, featuring bluegrass, pop, Christian music; classic car show, carnival rides, pony rides and inflatables for the kids, arts and crafts booths, business expo, great food including barbeque, ice cream, funnel cakes, etc. For more information visit www.magnoliafestival.org. Cemetery Clean Up

May 11 Friendship United Methodist Church will start having cemetery cleanup for the May 11 decoration day. Monetary donations will be received and appreciated.



TOPS

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church, Room 2028. Robert Pliner is the leader. For more information call 608-0606.



Mount Olive



Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.



Fultondale



Dance

March 14 Come on out and dance with the Birmingham Swing Dancers on March 14 at the Fultondale Friendship Hall, 1024 Old Walkers Chapel Road, Fultondale from 7:30 – 10:30 pm. Cost is $5 for BSD members, $7 for non-members. Soft drinks, water and ice will be furnished. No alcohol or smoking is allowed in the Friendship Hall. Park Help

March 15 The stream restoration project will be completed in Black Creek Park on March 15. Volunteers are needed to install blue bird boxes, split rail fence, flowering shrubs and trees. May 17 The Mortimer Jordan class of 1967 are planning a class reunion for May 17 at the school. Since they are getting a new school this will probably be our last opportunity to hold a reunion in the place we actually attended classes. Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mother Day Out program will offer childcare for 6 weeks to 4-years-old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. We follow the Jefferson County School system calendar, so we are out during all of their breaks. For more information call 647-9614.



Warrior



Bunko

March 8 The Magnolia Garden Club is sponsoring a fun evening of Bunko for Warrior and surrounding communities. It will be held March 8 starting at 6 pm at the Warrior school gym. A tax deductible donation of $10 per person is requested and the proceeds will be used for additional landscaping at the school which is the project of Magnolia Garden Club. The winner for the evening will receive the grand price valued at $100. There will also be a second place prize given and door prizes during the evening. Health Fair

March 8 The Health and Wellness Fair will be held on March 8 at Northbrook Baptist Church 9 a.m. to noon. Guest Speaker is Dr. Benita Swartout. The topic will be How to Flourish and Grow Amid Life’s Stressors. Tickets are $10 per person suggested donation available in advance or at the door. All proceeds from this event will go to support Cullman Christian School. This event will also include lots of door prizes, free health screenings and demonstrations, silent auction, information will be available on: organic farming, weight loss, exercise techniques, supplements, healthy skin care and makeup, hormone replacement therapy and more. Cat Show

March 15 Alabama paw and claws all breed championship and household pet cat show will take place on March 15 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. TEARS will be on hand with cats and kittens to adopt. Fashion Show

March 21 A fashion show featuring local designers will be held on March 21 to benefit SpaceOneEleven–90% of the profits from the door will be going towards funding their art programs for underprivileged children. The other 10% is going towards a scholarship at UAB in the name of Kala Nicole Fanaei. The show is called EQUINOX and it will be held at Matthew’s Bar and Grill on Morris Ave. Doors open at 7 pm and the show will start at 8 pm.
