Jordan softball goes 2-1 at Mountain Brook tournament

The Mortimer Jordan softball team took to the field for the first time since finishing third at last year’s 5A state tournament, as they competed in the Mountain Brook tournament on Saturday.
Mortimer Jordan 4,
Pelham 0
The Lady Blue Devils opened their season with a win. Michelle Cheatwood (1-0) threw six innings of two-hit ball, struck out six and walked none to pick up the win.
At the plate, Danae Hayes went 1-for-1 with two walks. She smashed a solo home run and scored twice. Blair Johnson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a triple.
Mortimer Jordan 6,
Clay-Chalkville 0
Freshman Johnson (1-0) threw six innings of three-hit ball and struck out nine to record the win. She walked none.
At the plate, Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. She scored one run.
Sophomore Morgan Estell went 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI. Senior Brandy Worden went 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI.
Kayla Cox went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Pell City 1,
Mortimer Jordan 0
Worden (0-1) threw 3 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, allowing one earned run and striking out two. Johnson finished up, throwing 1 2/3 innings of no-hit ball and striking out three.
At the plate, Alyssa Linn went 2-for-2, Hayes went 1-for-3 and Worden was also 1-for-3.
Mortimer Jordan slipped to 2-1 on the season.
Baseball:
Mountain Brook 4,
Gardendale 0
David Roberts (0-1) took the loss, throwing a complete game nine-hitter and striking out seven. He allowed only two earned runs.
At the plate, Josh Headley went 1-for-3, Hunter Graveman went 1-for-2 and Adam Erwin went 1-for-3.
Homewood 7,
Gardendale 5
Conner McCain (1-1), took the loss, throwing four innings of six-hit ball, allowing three earned runs and striking out two batters.
At the plate, Cameron Brewer went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Trey Williamon went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and Travis Key went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
The Rockets slipped to 1-3 this season.
