I wrote a column a few months ago about my wild and crazy girl’s weekend with some friends of mine from college. This past weekend, we decided to give it another try.

My friends, Amy and Serena, are both pregnant with their third child each. When we all get together, there is bound to be some kicking, screaming, fighting and biting.

Of course, I’m not talking about the adults here.

This weekend I was in a house with five kids under the age of six, and two pregnant women. Needless to say, I had a blast.

We reverted to our old college ways when we hit the local Wal-Mart at 2 a.m. on Saturday morning. We left all the kids sleeping at the house with Amy’s husband, Scott, and went out for some late night shopping.

The whole purpose of this trip was to throw a baby shower for Amy. We did accomplish the task at hand, but we made some new memories while doing it.

We were able to get ready and almost make it to church on time on Sunday morning. This is no small task.

We made fun of each other, laughed and listened to our kids cry. We are the type of friends who can be brutally honest with each other and still be friends. I like friends like this. I need the facts handed to me straightforward. Brutal honest is my pick of ways to hear the truth.

We looked at old college pictures and almost cried after seeing our slim bodies compared to our post-childbearing bodies of today.

Like all good girls’ weekends, we spent our fair share of time eating.

I had the neatest meal this weekend at a place called Cheddar’s. I ordered a monte cristo sandwich.

This sandwich is made of cheddar, swiss, turkey and ham, deep fried in batter, topped with powdered sugar and dipped in a raspberry dipping sauce.

I know that this sounds like the grossest thing that you’ve ever heard of, but it is really delicious. Whoever came up with this one gets a big thumbs up from me. I can see that I’m getting older when one of the biggest highlights of my weekend was a cool, new sandwich that I tried.

Oh well, I’m a mom and a grown woman — I have to accept these facts at some point in my life and I’m doing that now.

We’re not the young, sorority girls that we use to be, but we still know how to have some fun.

So, do me a favor this week: Call up one of your old friends from your past and catch up on old times. You definitely won’t regret it. You may decide that this friendship is worth keeping and regain a compadre that you thought was long gone.

If you don’t want to do it for yourself, do it for your old friend. They may be in need of a friend at this time. Who doesn’t like to hear a nice voice from the past?
