The chase for area titles and sub-state basketball playoff berths begins this Thursday for girl’s teams and this Friday for boy’s teams.

The winners of each area tournament will host sub-state playoff games next week, while the runners-up in each area will travel in sub-state play.



5A, Area 10

The hosts from Hayes meet Woodlawn at 6 p.m. on Thursday night, followed by Gardendale facing Erwin at 7:30 p.m.

The winners meet for the are title on Monday night at 6 p.m.



5A, Area 12

In Jasper, Mortimer Jordan and Hayden face off at 5:30 p.m. and Curry meets Walker at 7 p.m.

The winners will meet Saturday night at 6 p.m.



4A, Area 10

At Locust Fork, Corner faces St. Clair County at 6 p.m., followed by Tarrant meeting Locust Fork at 7:30 p.m.

The winners meet on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the title.



2A, Area 11

At Ohatchee, Fultondale will meet Westbrook Christian at 6 p.m., followed by the hosts facing Victory Christian at 7:30 p.m.

The winners meet Saturday night at 6 p.m. for the title.

Boy’s tournaments



5A, Area 10

Erwin meet Woodlawn at 6 p.m. on Friday night, followed by Gardendale facing the hosts from Hayes at 7:30 p.m.

The winners meet for the are title on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.



5A, Area 12

In Jasper, Mortimer Jordan and Curry face off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night, then Hayden meets Walker at 7 p.m.

The winners will meet Monday night at 7 p.m.



4A, Area 10

At Tarrant, Corner faces Locust Fork at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by Tarrant and St. Clair County meeting at 7:30 p.m.

The winners meet on Monday at 7 p.m. for the title.



2A, Area 11

At Westbrook Christian in Rainbow City, Fultondale will meet Ohatchee at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by the hosts from Westbrook facing Victory Christian at 7:30 p.m.

The winners meet Monday night at 6 p.m. for the title.

Last season, the Gardendale boys, the Corner girls and the Fultondale girls reached the sub-state round of the playoffs.

The number could be higher this season. In girls play, in 5A, Area 10 Gardendale has beaten Erwin this year. In 5A, Area 12 one local club has to reach the area final. In 4A, Area 11, Corner has beaten St. Clair County this year.

Meanwhile, in boys play, in 4A, Area 11 matchup, Corner has whipped St. Clair County and in 2A, Area 11, Fultondale has whipped Ohatchee earlier this year.
