Gardendale



Valentine Party

Feb. 8 The Gardendale Senior Center is hosting a free Valentine party for seniors 55 and older. There was formerly a charge, but the admission fee has been dropped. The party is Feb. 8, 6-9 p.m., at the center and will feature Ray Newman, the One Man Band.



Singing

Feb. 9 The Southern Drifters will be performing at the Moncrief Park Boy Scout Building on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. For more information call 631-0077.



Relay for Life

The North Jefferson Relay for Life season is under way. Help take up the fight against cancer. Relay still needs teams and team captains. Team captain meetings will be held on Feb. 21, March 13 and April 10 at the Alabama Power office on Main Street in Gardendale, next to the Western super market. The meetings will begin at 5 p.m. Bank Night will be held at SouthPoint bank in Gardendale on April 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. Relay for Life will be held at the Gardendale Soccer Complex on May 2 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. For more information about Relay for Life, visit http://events.cancer.org/rflnorthjeffersonal.



Bible Study

The Community Ladies Bible study has begun. It meets at 9 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the fellowship hall of Gardendale First Baptist Church. Child care is available. Also, a study room will be available for home-schooled children.



Help Wanted

Royal Family Kids’ Camp is a week long sleep over camp for abused and neglected children. Gardendale Mt Vernon UMC will be sponsoring a camp this summer. We will also throw a birthday party for all the campers since some of them never get a birthday party thrown for them. If you would like to be a counselor for two of these special children, please contact Paul Wiegert at the church office at 631-7631. There will be mandatory training in order to prepare you for this wonderful experience.



Men’s Basketball Open Gym

Gardendale Mt. Vernon will have a men’s basketball open gym on Mondays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. For more info call 631-7631.



Consignment Sale

Feb. 11-16 There will be a children’s consignment sale on Feb. 11-16 at Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Sellers earn 70 percent. Proceeds go to missions. For more info and full details call 631-7631 or visit www.gmvumc.org.



Showcase of Bands

Feb. 16 The Alabama Bluegrass Music Association’s (ABMA) 12th annual showcase of bands will be Feb. 16 at the Bessemer Civic Center. Show begins at noon. For more information call647-2424. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.



Casting

March 2 The Presbyterian School of Fine Arts will hold auditions for the musical Grease on March 2 from 2-4 p.m. at the school on Tarrant Road. Casting will be for teenagers and young adults. For additional information call Judy Watson at 631-4508.



TOPS

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday, 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church, Room 2028. They will be having an open house on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. with free healthy snacks. There is no obligation to attend.



Mount Olive



Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.

Our RLC/gifted class is looking for available individuals who lived or fought during World War II because we are writing a novel. Special Breakfast

Feb. 9 The Hayden Lion’s Club will have a breakfast on Feb. 9 from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Hayden Elementary School cafeteria. Tickets are $6 for children and $3 for children uner ten years old. Special Singing

Feb. 9 Mountain Grove Baptist Church, on County Highway 47 in Blountsville, will have a special singing on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. with New Dawn Quartet.



Ladies Weekend

Feb. 29, March 1 Lisa Whelchel, who played Blair Warner on TV’s “Facts of Life,” will speak at Ladies Weekend 2008 at First Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. Music will be provided by “Gracefull” of Valleydale Church. Tickets are $25 and include dinner on Friday evening. The cost is $20 to attend the sessions only. Seating is limited. Art on the Lake

April 19, 20 Art on the Lake, an annual two-day arts and crafts event in Guntersville, is now accepting applications from vendors who wish to exhibit in the show. Reunion
