The Fultondale Wildcats clinched at least a tie for the 2A, Area 11 regular season title with a easy 71-16 victory over Victory Christian.

The Wildcats could be involved in a coin toss to determine which school will host the area tournament should Westbrook Christian defeat Ohatchee in their final area game.

Fultondale (14-8 overall, 5-1 in area play), will host the tournament should Ohatchee upset the Warriors, who are currently 4-1 in Area 11 play.

The Wildcats rolled over Victory Christian for the second time in two meetings, as 10 Fultondale players scored.

Chris Brown led the way with 14 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Christian McCollough with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Dra Talley with 10 points and 10 rebounds, J.D. Hood with nine points, Chris Preston with six points, Andrea Rowe and Sharod Smith with five points each, R.J. Sanders with four points and three assists and Landon Robinson and Josh Tarwater with three points each.

Smith added three assists. Taylor Minor had four assists and four rebounds and C.J. Mixon grabbed eight rebounds.

The Lady Torches raced to a 23-0 lead and were never challenged. Meghan Hallice led the way with 15 points, followed by Candace Coleman with 11, Sarah Walker with four, Heather Zassoda and Kari White scored two each and Ashley Zassoda had one.

Coleman led the way with 12 points, four steals and two assists. Hallice had six pints, five rebounds, two steals, two blocked shots and two assists.

Tabernacle won a key area game after opening a 18-6 lead they were able to hold off a big push from the home team.

Coleman had 17 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists, Hallice had 17 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. White had 10 points, three rebounds and two steals, Heather Zassoda had three points, six rebounds and two steals. Savannah Harper had two points and Ashley Zassoda had one point.

Tabernacle is now 13-3 overall and 2-0 in area play.

Convent girls 31

On Tuesday night, the Lady Torches improved to 14-3 as they used a big second half to rout Convent.

“We were slow working our press in the first half, but we got it going after half time and pulled away,” coach Phillip Coleman Jr. said.

The junior Coleman coached in place of his father, who was at home with an ankle injury.

Candace Coleman lead the Lady Torches with 26 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Hallice had 20 points and six rebounds.
