The Mortimer Jordan Lady Blue Devils had to survive a scare on Tuesday night from the visiting Corner Lady Yellow Jackets before prevailing in overtime, 62-54.

The Lady Devils took control in the extra period thanks to the Ashlee Porter, who scored eight of her 13 points in the overtime period.

The Lady Devils had to withstand the Lady Jackets outside shooting. Corner sank seven 3-pointers during the contest, four by Mandy Slatton and three more by Ashley Tolbert.

The Lady Devils improved to 17-5 on the season, while Corner slipped to 11-10.

Brianna Nation had a game-high 17 points for Jordan, followed by Porter’s 13, Peyton Davis with 12, Ashley Merritt and Shea Bowman with eight each and Elisabeth Naramore scored three.

Davis collected a game-high 14 rebounds and blocked four shots.

Slatton and Nicole Russell led Corner with 14 points each, followed by Tolbert with 12, Kortney Sloan and Elizabeth Allred scored six each and Haley Anderson had two points.

Cleveland girls 55,

Hayden girls 51

The Lady Wildcats were knocked out of the single-elimination Blount County girl’s tournament with a narrow loss Tuesday night.

Krista Stricklin and Mallory Ray both had a double-doubles for Hayden (10-11). Stricklin had 23 points and 10 rebounds. She also added five steals and two assists. Ray had 22 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Melissa Stricklin, Sam Niblett and Terri Sharp had two points each. Niblett grabbed seven rebounds.

Woodlawn boys 78,

Gardendale boys 72

Gardendale had four double figure scorers, but it wasn’t enough against hot-shooting Woodlawn.

The Colonels shot 60 percent from the field, 24-of-40, but were even better from the foul line Tuesday night as they hit 26-of-30 free throws for a blistering 87 percent.

The Rockets couldn’t overcome an early deficit and had to foul often in the second half in hopes of getting the ball back after Colonel misses, but Woodlawn didn’t miss many shots from the charity stripe the whole night.

Nigel Ramsey led the Rockets with 23 points, six assists and three steals.

Drew Faile had 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Trey Hilliard scored 11, Zac Davis had 10, Hunter Graveman scored seven, Tyler Burgess scored three and Alan Jackson scored two points.

The loss drops the Rockets to 18-6 overall and 1-4 area play, meaning Gardendale will be the No. 4 seed in the area tournament and will face Hayes in the first round.
