John Weslie Winnett

John Weslie Winnett, age 87 of Fultondale, passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007. He was well known in the banking and printing industry and a retired officer of the Colonial Bank of Alabama. He was an active member of the graphic arts and printing crafts. A proud member of the greatest generation; John served with the U.S. Army during WWII as sergeant, Battery B- 7th Antiaircraft Artillery Batallion in the Marrianas, Philippines and Okinawa. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and friend to everyone who knew him. He enjoyed life as an expert fisherman and gardener. He was of the baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Edith nail Winnett; sons, Wayne (Sue) Winnett of Gardendale, Philip Winnett of Lincoln and Robert (Becky) Winnett of Pinson; daughters, Margaret Ann (Calvin) Jones of Northport and Judy Wood of Ft. Payne; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, James Lewis Winnett of Ohio and Ronald Winnett of Tarrant; sisters, Kathryn Goodwin of Warrior, Clovestine “Toots” Bradford of Mt. High; Mary Terry of Arkansas and Nellie Niblett of Trafford. Services were held at the Gardendale Chapel with burial Oakwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Carl Estes officiating. Active pallbearers were Geoff Jones, David Winnett, Eric Wood, Cal Breed, Andy Waldrop, Mackenzie MacGillivray. The family gives special thanks for the loving care by Dr. DeWitt and his team and the ICU staff at Physicians Medical Center at Carraway.
