Annual Fultondale Invitational under way

FULTONDALE — Twenty-one teams began competing Friday night for the right to be crowned the champion of the Fultondale Invitational.
The two-day event concludes today at the Fultondale gym, with action getting started this morning just after 8 a.m. A afternoon session, in which all weight class and a team champion will be crowned is also slated after noon time. Cost per each session is $5 per person.
Some of the local wrestlers who took place in first round matches Friday include Hayden’s Joseph Ash, who won his 125-pound match over Elmore County’s Campbell with a second period pin. Hayden’s Chase Burns won his 103-pound match by second period pin over Tallasee’s Sam Reynolds.
Hayden’s Dakota McCormick pinned Huntsville’s McDaniel in the the first round of their 112-pound match. Mortimer Jordan’s Elliott Conn pinned Trevor Durham of Gardendale with 27 seconds left in their 125-pound match.
Jordan’s Jacob Howse pinned Dora’s Busby in the first period of their 112-pound match. Gardendale’s Jeremy Clemons pinned Piedmont’s Minton in the first period of their 112-pound match. Hayden’s Welsey Ray won his 112-pound match by pinning Piedmont’s Alvardo.
Fultondale’s Cody Evans pinned Oak Grove’s Good in only 49 seconds of their 125-pound match.
At 130 pounds, Gardendale’s Daniel Swann pinned Mortimer Jordan’s Zach Taylor in 53 seconds.
Fultondale’s Chris Cotton pinned Hayden’s Dustin Jewell with 30 seconds left in the second period of their 135-pound match.
Fultondale’s Brett Pennington pinned Oak Grove’s Wilks just 54 seconds into their 140-pound match.
Fultondale’s Steven Dodgen pinned Mortimer Jordan’s Josh Pate with 36 seconds left in their 135-pound match.
Mortimer Jordan Travis Shellnut pinned Fultondale’s Corey Fuller at 1:17 of the first period in their 112-pound match.
Fultondale’s Chris Self won his 135-pound match over Tallassee’s Robbins by the score of 15-2.
Fultondale’s Steven Ingram pinned Huntsville’s Patrick in the first period of their 145-pound match.
Fultondale’s Carlos Johnson pinned Oak Mountain’s Tucker at 1:14 of the first period of their 145-pound match.
Gardendale’s Andrew Todd pinned Hayden’s Keith Marsh at the 4:26 mark of the third period in their 152-pound match.
Fultondale’s Wesley Horn pinned Hayden’s Adam Sharp at the 3:42 mark of their 160-pound match.
Fultondale’s Noe Valladares won his 145-pound match over Mortimer Jordan’s David Murphy, 14-8.
Hayden’s Joseph Trosclair pinned Weaver’s Perry at the 3:04 mark of their 160-pound match.
Fultondale’s Daniel Davidson won his 160-pound match with a pin of Erwin’s Hubbard.
