After posting a 12-9 record and losing in the sub-state round of the playoffs last season, the Tabernacle Lady Torches are hoping for bigger and better things this year.
“Our goal is to get to the state tournament,” head coach Phillip Coleman said.
Coleman welcomes back four starters from last year’s club—senior Meghan Hallice, juniors Candace Coleman and Heather Zassoda and Kari White.
Joining the quartet on the roster are eight other players, including sophomores Anna Kaetz and Lauren Galloway, juniors Ashley Zassoda and Savannah Harper, freshman Kayla Niblett, eighth grader Sara Walker and two seventh graders, Elizabeth Osborne and Katie Ogle.
Hallice and Coleman led the club in all major categories last season. Hallice led the team in scoring, blocked shots and rebounds, while Coleman, who was the team’s second leading scorer, led the Lady Torches in assists and free throw percentage.
“I’m looking for us to have a really good season,” Coleman said. “These girls have pushed themselves to get into shape in the offseason and it really shows up in our defense. I think we’ll be a strong defensive club that will get after the other team.”
Coleman’s expecting his club to have a strong inside-out game on offense, with Hallice’s ability to score in the low post and the club’s long-range shooting ability.
“I think we’ll shoot the 3-pointer well,” Coleman said. “That to go along with Meghan’s play in the post will be the key for our offense.”
