It’s over. It’s over. It’s finally over. The Hayden Wildcats ended a 17-game losing streak with a 40-8 defeat of the Curry Yellow Jackets.

Hayden got on the board first on a 25-yard pass from T. J. Rock to Gavin Brown. Keith Marsh added the point after to give the Cats a 7 – 0 lead with 8:22 left in the opening quarter.

Curry would take the lead late in the quarter when Jerrod Henderson hit Mason Tidwell for 13 yards and the score. Kyle Fialco ran in from the 3-yard line to give the Jackets an 8-7 lead with 1:20 left in the first. Hayden’s Gavin Brown would give the Cats the lead for good with 10:22 left in the second quarter on a 2-yard run. The extra point was blocked but Hayden had a 13-8 lead. Hayden would add another touchdown late in the quarter when Jason Warden ran in from 8 yards out.

Warden ran in from 3 yards for the 2-point conversion. The score at intermission was Hayden 21, Curry 8.

Neither team would score in the third quarter, but early in the fourth quarter Hayden’s Brown scored his touchdown on the night on a 1-yard run. The kicked failed, but Hayden extended the lead to 27-8 with 11:11 left in the game. Later in the quarter the Cat’s Cody Butler intercepted a Jacket pass to set up a 5-yard run by Jason Warden. Marsh’s point after gave the Cats a commanding 34-8 lead with 6:25 on the clock. Hayden’s Joseph Trosclair intercepted a Curry pass and returned it 32 yards for the score. The kick failed but Hayden had a 40-8 win.

The leading rusher in the game was Hayden’s Gavin Brown who had 18 carries for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brown also had 2 catches for 32 yards and one touchdown. Jason Warden added 41 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns. Warden also had one catch for 30 yards. Leading the Cats defense was Rusty Thigpen who had 9 tackles, 3 quarterback sacks. Owen Hargett and Matt Stewart added 8 tackles each. Next week the Wildcats will host the Corner Yellow Jackets.
