Florida’s governor, Riley team up on Georgia water request
Florida’s governor has joined Gov. Bob Riley in opposing an attempt by Georgia’s political leaders to take control of water releases from a federal reservoir near Atlanta. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist wrote President Bush on Wednesday urging the President to “strongly oppose” Georgia’s request to take control of the release of water from Lake Lanier outside Atlanta. Governor Riley contacted President Bush on Monday also urging him to deny Georgia’s request. “Alabama and Florida are united because we understand the tremendous economic harm our citizens face if Georgia succeeds in cutting back the water,” said Governor Riley. “I thank Governor Crist for standing with the people of Alabama whose communities and employers rely on this water to operate.”
