Food, carnivals are just a few reasons why I love fall

Have I mentioned lately how much I love fall? I really do.
Fall is the time of year that you get to go to carnivals and meet your neighbors. I love to sit outside at my house. I don’t do it enough, but I do love it. When I do, there is always a neighbor who drives by and honks and waves.
That just gives me that Mayberry feeling. The feeling that my neighbors are there for me. That if they saw someone breaking into my home, they would actually call the police instead of watching them do it.
I’ve heard of neighbors who saw people’s houses getting robbed and said, “I’m not calling anyone. … They deserve to get robbed. They’re sorry people anyway.”
What kind of neighbor is that? The Bible says that we are to love our neighbors. And fall is a very pleasant time to love them.
Now, your neighbor doesn’t just have to be the people that live next door to you. Your neighbor can be the guy that you always bump into at the grocery store or the lady at your church that you know could use a hand.
These neighbors are the ones that you really get to make an impact in their lives.
I like to bake goodies for my neighbors around town. I have slacked off in this area horribly since I had Raygan, but I’m getting back into the swing of things.
So neighbors, beware — I will be bringing you semi-homemade cookies and pies a little closer to the holidays.
With fall in the air, this is also a great time to get new recipes and ideas to decorate your home in. I often have great ideas, but no money or time to back them up with. So my house looks the same way year round. I usually sit out some apples in a basket and a scarecrow around fall with the pumpkins that we carve.
Christmas is a winter wonderland, but other than that, my home is bland and dull.
It’s a good thing the leaves help to decorate the front yard.
And the holiday recipes are well worth the trip to the family get-togethers around this time of year.
Just this week I stole my mom’s upside down apple pie recipe. This is another great reason to send in your recipes for our Holiday Cookbook that we (The North Jefferson News) put out every year. I always find a few nuggets that I hold on to myself from this cookbook.
So my favorite parts of fall are the carnivals, food, recipes, decorating and just being outside in this wonderful fall weather.
Don’t miss out on these wonderful autumn events.
