Hamburger Heaven to help Miracle League field on Thursday
A Gardendale restaurant will soon pitch in to help an ambitious community project. On Thursday Hamburger Heaven will donate 10 percent of its total daily sales to the Miracle League Field project. The field, to be built in Gardendale, will feature a rubberized playing surface enabling special needs children to play baseball.

Free concert held Sunday
The Gardendale Arts Council will sponsor a free concert Sunday, to be held in the Gardendale Civic Center’s Exhibition Hall. The entertainment will be provided by the Birmingham Community Concert Band, a 45-piece ensemble under the direction of Maestro Spencer Shaw. The concert, entitled “Oktoberfest in Dixie,” will feature selections by Andrew Lloyd Weber, Rogers and Hammerstein, Robert Russell Bennett, Jean Sibelius and Morton Gould. Unload junk on Saturday
The Gardendale Public Works Department will allow citizens to bring junk to the brush recycling site on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The department will allow all kinds of household discards, including: Appliances (one per household), electric tools, tires and rims (only two per residence and no large tractor tires), all kinds of metals, vehicles batteries (car, truck, tractor), televisions, household furniture, bed springs and mattresses, tin cans, glass, plastic, newspapers, magazines, cardboard and other discarded household items. Household garbage, fencing, building materials, brush, yard debris, paint or varnish, household batteries and tanks of any kind will not be accepted. Gasoline must be removed from old lawnmowers. Be prepared to verify residency with a drivers license or other picture identification.
