Martin David Otis

Martin David Otis, age 77 of Mt. Olive, passed away on September 9, 2007. He was proceeded in death by his son, Randy Otis. Mr. Otis attended Gardendale First Baptist Church as well as served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his loving wife, Gayle Otis; children, Kerry (Sherry) Otis and Alan (Emily) Otis; grandchildren, Megan Parrish (Joe), Dustin Otis, Meredith Nesbitt (David), Heather Otis, Kendra Otis, Trippman Otis, Tiffany Otis; great-grandchild, Cole Nesbitt; sisters, Louise Snyder and Violet Nail, daughter-in-law, Jone Otis; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. Services were held at the chapel with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Rev. Richard Coggin officiated.

Iantha “Tiny” Powers

Iantha “Tiny” Powers, age 94 of Mt. Olive, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007. She was a member of Beechwood Baptist Church and the North Jefferson Quilters Quild. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Powers and Grandson Jonathan Powers. Survivors include her sons, William “Eddy” (Faye) Powers and Harvey Ray “Bubba” (Linda) Powers, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Graham Cemetery with Brother Doug Moore officiating.

Vera Rena Teer Smith

Vera Rena Teer Smith, age 70 of Mt. Olive passed away on Sept. 20, 2007. She was a member of East Gardendale Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband, James “Chuck” Smith, daughters, Nina Brogdon, Shelly Hollis and Pattie Northcutt, six grandchildren, one brother, four sisters and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Walker’s Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Allen Davis officiating.
