The Fultondale City Council approved more business licenses for the Colonial Properties shopping center during its Monday meeting.
The council approved a license for Target and a Starbucks, which will be located inside the Target store.
The council also approved an off-premises retail beer and table wine license for the store.
Councilman Greg Morris jokingly told those in attendance that the council had to think long and hard about giving approval to Target. The much-anticipated store is scheduled to open on Oct. 11.
The city also passed resolutions for change orders on some of the city’s field projects. One of those change orders will actually save the city about $36,000 on the Fultondale Athletic Complex. That savings involved moving from a block construction to a brick construction that will match the elementary school.
Another change order centers around the Fultondale football field and will add about $8,269 to the cost of the field for sod and irrigation. However, the city is still within budget on the baseball and football field projects, despite the overrun.
In other business, the council:
• passed a resolution to enter into a change order with Racon Inc. for contracts that will add additional items of work required to change the development for new tenants at the shopping center. The resolution states that Colonial Properties will pay the money required over the amount for the development agreement.
• authorized Mayor Jim Lowery to enter into an agreement with CSX for the purchase of rails for the Rails to Trails under the National Trail Systems Act
• authorized the mayor to negotiate and enter into a contract for services for strategic long-term managerial and financial consulting for the city
The council will meet again on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.
