Torches wreck Pirates’ ship 58-0

GARDENDALE — Friday night the Tabernacle Torches beat the Lighthouse Christian Academy out of Montgomery 58-0, to improve to 5-0 this seasonn.
The Tabernacle defense only gave up 47 total yards the entire game. Billy Lopez had three sacks in the game for the Torches. Also Bradley White and Jonthan Roper both had interceptions in the game.
“Tonight, defensively we played real well. Offensively we weren’t very sharp. Don’t let the score fool you. It will take a better effort next week to win. This is a two part season. The first half is over, it gets for real next week.” Tabernacle Coach Keith Dabbs said.
On the Torches first possession Landon Ingle ran it in from three yards out. After a Daniel Whaley to Ingle pass for the 2-point conversion, Tabernacle led 8-0. Ingle scored again late in the first quarter to make the score 14-0.
In the second quarter, Will Lankford scored from 1-yard out to complete a 7-play 34-yard drive. After Whaley found Steven White in the end zone for the 2-point conversion, Tabernacle led 22-0.
Landon Ingle scored his third touchdown of the first half on the next Tabernacle possession. Bradley White ran in the 2-point conversion and the Torches led 30-0.
On the very next possession, Tabernacle scored again. This time Matt Wade ran it in for a touchdown from 6 yards out. Whaley passed to Frank Doganiero for the 2-point conversion to make the score 38-0. Wade scored second touchdown in half when he ran in from 25 yards out.
Mac Ogletree ran in the 2-point conversion to make the score at the half 46-0.
In the second half, Matt Wade took the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown to make the score 52-0.
Wade scored his fourth and final touchdown of the game right before the end of the third quarter when he ran it in from 6 yards out to make the score 58-0.
Next week, Tabernacle will play their second home contest in as many weeks when they meet Victory-Columbus.
Ingle finished as the game’s leading rusher with 77 yards gained on 11 carries. He also scored three times.
Whaley was 2-of-8 in the air for 31 yards, with one pickoff.
