Beatrice Stone

Beatrice Stone of Wilsonville passed away on Sept. 11, 2007. She was the devoted wife of the late Rev. Thomas H. Stone and was a loving mother and MeMaw. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Sonya Gail Stone and Sandra Dennis. Survivors include her daughter, Connie Buford, sisters, Willie Faye Bradley and Sarah Vansant, grandchildren, Karen Chelette, Jay Dennis, Angie Rumsey, Tommy Buford, Melanie Goss and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilsonville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the memorial fund of the Gideon Bible.

J.M. Dockery

J.M. Dockery, age 68 of Brookside, passed away on Sept. 11, 2007. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Buddy Dockery of Pinson, Kathleen Lynn of Georgia, Hazel Crumpton of Adamsville, Mary Maynor of Garden City, Joel Dockery of Alabaster, Martha Malone of Pelham and Florine Brown of Warrior and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery in Corner.

Leila Belvin Sparks

Leila Belvin Sparks was born April 8, 1950 and passed away Sept. 11, 2007 in Gardendale. She is survived by her husband, Mike Sparks; her son, Michael Sparks (Julianna); mother, Jo Arwood (Gene); siblings, Brenda Posey (Ed), Jodi Sims (Richard), Susan Stokes (Barry), Charles Belvin (Ginger); and a host of other relatives and friends. Leila was a loving wife, mother and friend. She was known for providing kind words and a helping hand to everyone she knew. Leila was a graduate of Phillips High School and a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held in the chapel of Morgan’s @ Gardendale Funeral Home with burial at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.

James “Jay” Fines

James “Jay” Fines, age 74 of Gardendale passed away on Sept. 13, 2007. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Albert Fines and Nancy Fines Hill, five sisters and six brothers. Mr. Fines was a Korean War veteran and was retired from Alabama Power Company. He was a member of Mt. Olive First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 52-and-a-half years, Betty Swann Fines; daughters, Vickie (Billy) Stewart of Mt. Olive, Rhonda Cheek of Mt. Olive, Pam (Mike Daoze) Fines of Huntsville; grandchildren, Christopher Cheek of Mt. Olive, Heather Cheek of Mt. Olive, Brett Stewart of Morris, Ben (Jessica) Stewart of Fultondale, Bart Stewart of Mt. Olive; great-granddaughter, Emma Brooke Stewart; brothers J.N. Fines of Mt. Olive, Barney Hill of Gardendale, Bob Hill of Montgomery, Frank Hill Sharit of Calif.; sisters Izola Baty of Cullman, Milo Wesson of Warrior, Margie Ogletree of Tallasee and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the chapel with burial at Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Rev. Doug Moore officiating.
