Beatrice Reese Leila Foster

Beatrice Reese Leila Foster, age 95, of Morris, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007. Funeral services will be held at graveside at Liberty Minter Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. with burial in Liberty Minter Cemetery Morris. Rev. David Allison officiating. She was preceded in death by her John and Connie Reese. Survivors: sons Charles (Eloise) Foster of Morris, Richard (Sherryle) of Lewisburg, Tenn., daughter Judy (Joe) Short of Morris, sister Jewell Armour of Morris, also survived by six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Hughes Memorial Baptist Church.

Nicholas Alan Lowery

Nicholas Alan Lowery, age 22. “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are innumerable.” Psalm 139:16, 17. Nicholas went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007. He is survived by his parents, Bruce and Rhonda Lowery; sister and brother-in-law, Brian and Stephanie Ramm; nephew, Cody Ramm; grandparents, Bernie and Doris Murphree, Walter and Becky Lowery and a host of extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends. As a requirement in becoming a fireman, he was pursuing his EMT certification at Jefferson State Community College. He was a member at Gardendale Fist Baptist Church and attended Beechwood Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed going camping, canoeing, fishing, exploring caves, Jeep riding and just hanging out with his friends. He also enjoyed working out, playing his drums and bass guitar and listening to country music. Nick had a compassionate side to him. Nick was honest, truthful and very sincere. He was fun loving and always made you laugh. Funeral services were held at Gardendale First Baptist Church with burial in Moncrief Cemetery.

Edward Elliott Ellsworth Jr.

Edward Elliott Ellsworth Jr. age 65 of Gardendale, passed away on Aug. 30, 2007 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was born March 8, 1942 in Connecticut to Edward E. Ellsworth Sr. and Catherine Postemski Ellworth. He was an accountant. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home handled the arrangements. There will be a private memorial at Abington Congregational Church in Pomfret, Ct. Mr. Ellsworth is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carol Fontaine Ellsworth. Survivors include: two daughters, Tracy (David) Murray and Diane Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Grayson Murray, Chasen Murray and Cannon Miller; two brothers, Jim (Deb) Ellsworth and Jerry (June) Ellsworth; a brother-in-law, Stu (Judy) Fontaine; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Marvin Rex Shotts Sr.

Marvin Rex Shotts Sr., age 69 of Hayden, passed away on Sept. 3, 2007. He was born in Russellville and attended Phillips High School where he was a member of the Vikings Fraternity and University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He was a member of the 117th Air National Guard and was activated in 1961 by the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant to France. He was an avid hunter — rabbit hunting with his beagles were what he loved most. He retired from ACIPCO after 44 years of service where he was a master electrician. Rex’s last year has been spent under the tender, loving care of Barbara Odom, his sitter and Amedisys Hospice Care, Kim Brakefield and Carletha Frazier and our wonderful neighbor, Sharon Haley. The family would also like to thank Dr. Leah Daggett of ACIPCO for her loving care. Rex is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty; his sons, Marvin Rex Shotts Jr. (Kim) and Victor Shawn Shotts (Lizzy); his daughter, Vicki Elliott; grandchildren, Margaret Ann Elliott, Sam Elliott, Kasie Shotts, Shawn Shotts, Cody Shotts, Marvin Rex Shotts III, Preston Shotts, Logan Spencer and Sydney Shotts. Services were conducted by Dr. Sammie Reid at Morgan’s @ Gardendale with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.

Harlon Eugene Wilemon

Harlon Eugene Wilemon, age 70, went home to be with is Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of Aug. 27, 2007 from his residence in Hayden. He was born on Nov. 16, 1938 in Blount County where he lived most of his life. Harlon was the older of two children born to Acie T. Wilemon and Rubye Smith Wilemon who preceded him in death. He graduated from Susan Moore High School in 1954 and continued his education at Alverson-Draughton Business School in Birmingham. He married the love of his life, Bonnie Thomas Wilemon, on July 12, 1958. Together they served the Lord faithfully through several ministries at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Hayden, where he was an active deacon, faithful Sunday school teacher, van driver and choir member for many years. Harlon retired as controller of Southeastern Steel Container Company in 1999 and pursued his life long interest in arts and crafts, particularly wood works. He enjoyed meeting new people as he traveled to various arts and crafts shows to display his handiworks. He was an active member of the Gardendale North Arts Council and served as treasurer of the organization. Harlon and his wife were passionate about praising the Lord in song and spent much of their time participating in convention singings throughout the state. He served as chairman of the monthly singing at Gethsemane Baptist Church and as president of the Blount County Singing Convention. Mr. Wilemon is survived by his wife, Bonnie Thomas Wilemon of Hayden; one son, Tim (Angie) Wilemon of Smoke Rise; daughter, Lesa (L.A.) Wilemon Smith of Henagar; sister, Hellon Grigsby of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Carmen Wilemon of Pelham, Cassie (Josh) Wilemon Perry of Tuscaloosa, Gregory Carreker Jr. of Henagar, Cara Wilemon of Smoke Rise and Daniel Smith of Henager; two nephews; several brothers and sisters-in-law and their families; and numerous friends and special caregivers from the Family Comfort Hospice. Services were held at Gethsemane Baptist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Revs. L.A. Smith and Denny Armstrong officiated.
