Sweet treats racked up a sweet success for Cullman’s Dairy Queen. The community contributed $13,000 through participation in the company’s Miracle Treat Day to go toward funding of Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

“We really just want to say thank you to all of our customers and to the community for coming in and being a part of it,” Cullman store owner Samantha Way said. “It was really a good turnout.”

This was the second year Dairy Queen held the philanthropic day, donating all proceeds from the sale of Blizzards and MIracle balloons to local Children’s Hospitals.

“Dairy Queen is one of the biggest sponsors of Children’s Hospital,” Way said. “We tried to raise $1 million from all the Dairy Queens.”

Way, her husband Michael and mother Carolyn Shadden campaigned to meet a goal of $10,000.

“We were able to pre-sell this year. Several people went around the community and to local businesses and sold them Blizzard card coupons,” Way said. “Several companies bought Blizzard coupons for their employees and gave them out and we’re really thankful for that. All that money went to Children’s Hospital.”

Members of the community stepped up the day of the event to help out with making and selling Blizzards. Way said Cullman City Police Chief Kenny Culpepper and Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Rhoden were among those who donned a hat and stepped behind the counter to help customers.

“We had so many people come out to help,” Way said. “Colton Evans, one our miracle children even came out and talked to customers and helped make Blizzards.”

The store sold approximately 700 Blizzards on Miracle Day and Way said the restaurant was covered with Miracle Balloons bought by patrons.

“We’re just really glad that we can give this much money to our local Children’s Hospital,” Way said.
