Goldia Marie Thompson McGrew

Funeral services for Goldia Marie Thompson McGrew, 89, of Crane Hill will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Mike Hester officiating, with burial in Bethany Baptist Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McGrew died Sunday, Aug. 12, at Hanceville Nursing and Rehab. She was born on July 11, 1918, to Buleah and John Nickolas Thompson. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Wyona Joyce McGrew; four brothers, Donald Ray, Marvin Wayne, Grover and James Paul Thompson; two sisters, Mamie Jackson and Jo Ella Johnson; a grandson, Kevin Swartout; and a great-grandson, Christopher Swartout.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, William Hughes McGrew of Crane Hill; a daughter, Becky (Jerry) Gray of Crane Hill; a sister, Mable (Bill) Hufford; grandchildren, Dr. Benita Swartout of Cullman, Brenda (Denis) Reilly of Nashville, Tenn., Bart (Rita) Ferguson of Montevallo, Brian (Courtney) Ferguson of Cullman; a stepgranddaughter, Sherri (Rick) Booth of Kelso, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Naomi Baugus and Mildred Pruitt; a brother-in-law, Drewie McGrew, all of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Kayla Swartout, Justin, Lauren and Jonathan Reilly, Kyle and Holly Ferguson, Gavin Ferguson and Joel and McCall Booth; and many nieces and nephews and special friends.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.



Lillie Mabelle Link

Graveside services for Lillie Mabelle Link, 93, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Kevin Beasley officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Link died Sunday, Aug. 12, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Visitation was Monday.



Charles Leon Ford

Funeral services for Charles Leon Ford, 68, of Cullman were Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, Bro. Roy Bevis officiating, with interment in Center Hill Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ford passed away on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 11, 1938, in Jefferson County to K.S. and Eunice Bradley Ford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim Ford; and a sister, Venus Sherrett.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Patsy Jackson Ford of Cullman; two daughters, Cynthia Ford (Ted) Wood of Hoover and Teresa Ford Cobbs of Cullman; three sons, David (Amanda) Ford of Holly Pond, Tony (Myra) Ford of Eva and Brad (Lindsay) Ford of Gardendale; 14 grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, Lea, Dusty, Ashley, Shayla, Heath, Karli, Caden, Colby, Alex, Mitch, Logan and Lucas; a great-grandson, Brodie; and four sisters, Flo Ford, Francis (Charles) Herring, Faye (Jim) Stephens and Marie (Rick) Foresburg.

Mr. Ford dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson.

Pallbearers were Mr. Ford’s grandsons.

Visitation was Sunday.



Blanche Ladner Brandes

Blanche Ladner Brandes of Cullman departed this earth on Aug. 10, 2007, at the age of 104. She was born in Fultondale on May 14, 1903. She was one of seven children born to Stattie Dement Ladner and Thomas Ladner. When her parents and youngest sister died within a year of each other, Blanche and her five siblings were placed in the newly opened Oddfellows home in Cullman in 1910, where she lived until she graduated from high school. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church.

Mrs. Brandes was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, B.H. Brandes; and her three sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Blanche and Lindy Beall of Winter Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, the Rev. Chuck Canterbury officiating; viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to funeral services. A private burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Euell Theophilus Mann

Funeral services for Euell Theophilus Mann, 86, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Bob Kurtz and John Richter officiating, with interment in Cullman Heritage Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mann died Sunday, Aug. 12, at Cullman Long Term Care. He was born on May 7, 1921, in Cullman County to Robert A. and Ninnie L. Dunn Mann. He was a hospital maintenance worker with Cullman Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Floy Mann, Cecil Mann, Jeff Mann, Roy “Doc” Mann, Durrell Mann and Robert Scott; and three sisters, Minnie Smith, Gladys Smith and Willodean Coots.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Kelley Mann; two daughters, Janie (Clark) Keller and Jackie (Steve) Griffth, both of Cullman; four sisters, Charlsie Linton of Orlando, Fla., Luverne Ratliff of Ft. Worth, Texas, Ila Jean Veal of San Diego, Calif., and Martha Nell Bolding of Cullman; five grandchildren, Wyles (Tammy) Griffith, Sarah-Frances (Donovon) Lovell and Lila (Steve) Schwaiger, all of Cullman, John-Clark (Misty) Keller of Gadsden and Sally Keller of White Fish, Mont.; and nine great-grandchildren, Kacie, Jackson and Jacob Griffith, Owen Lovell, Evan Keller and Braden Teague, Jordan, Shelby and Olivia Schwaiger.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, 512 2nd Ave. SE, Cullman, AL 35055.

Visitation was Monday.



Roger Douglas Parris

Roger Douglas Parris, 70, of Orlando, Fla., passed away on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007. A memorial gathering will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Dove Funeral Home in Orlando.

Roger was born on March 29, 1937, in Glen Allen, Ala., to Eddie and Vera (Hiten) Parris. He moved to Orlando in 1959 from Birmingham. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked 20 years for the city of Orlando Fire Department at the Kaley/Orange station. He retired from the fire department and went to work for Avis Rent-A-Car for 13 years. He was a member of the Central Florida Corvette Association.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Marlon and Ronald Parris.

Survivors include daughters, Paula D. Costantini, Cynthia R. Hanners; sisters, Revis Sanders and Edna Earl Clement; and four granddaughters.
