The city of Fultondale is gearing up to break in one of its brand new treasures — the football field.
At Monday’s city council meeting, the council announced that there will be a ribbon-cutting at the new football field on Aug. 4, with another to follow when football season opens.
Following the Aug. 4 ribbon-cutting, the Fultondale Youth Association football program will host a football camp at the field.
The camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with former Auburn University football player Joe Cribbs and University of Alabama players Tim and Simeon Castille, the sons of former Alabama defensive back Jeremiah Castille.
And on July 26, sports reporter Jeh Jeh Pruitt of Fox 6 will broadcast live from the new football field at 6 a.m.
In other business, the council:
• voted to rezone two properties from R-3 multi-family districts to B-2 general business districts. The properties are at the corner of Park Street and Old Walker Chapel Road.
• approved a resolution to authorize the installation of two traffic signals. One is at 1388 Walker Chapel Road, and one is at U.S. Hwy. 31 and Lowery Parkway.
• voted to authorize Mayor Jim Lowery to enter into a change order for R.E. Grills Construction Co. for the Central Ave. roadway project.
• voted to allow the mayor to enter into an easement agreement with Alabama Power Company for the new football field.
• heard from the mayor that the city, despite recent rain, remains under a drought warning.
