After several weeks of discussion, the Warrior City Council has approved a revised pay scale for employees.
The main difference, voted on Monday night, is that the old scale was on a seven-step system, and the new scale has 10 steps.
It is not an across-the-board raise for city employees.
Rather, if workers score well on their annual employee reviews, they now have the chance to advance 10 steps rather than seven.
That means that employees could make more money over a period of time, according to city officials.
Also at Monday’s meeting, council members voted to adopt a sales tax holiday for the first full weekend in August.
The tax holiday goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 3 and ends at midnight on Aug. 5.
Only certain items may be purchased tax-free during the holiday.
In other business, the council:
n Contracted with LeadsOnline, an agency that will help the Warrior Police Department track stolen items that are then sold to pawn shops or other businesses. The contract will cost the city $1,308 a year.
n voted to hire Jerry Ogletree as a part-time public safety dispatcher.
n agreed to interview two part-time employees for the Public Works Department at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
n voted to send court clerk Renee Sears and assistant city clerk Cathy Jolly to an Alabama Municipal Court Clerk and Magistrates Conference. The registration fee is $345 each and rooms are $153 a night.
n voted to send city clerk Demetra Mixon to attend Municipal Clerks and Administrators Certification Training. The registration fee is $195 and the total cost for a hotel room is $267.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., July 23, at Warrior City Hall.
