Chester Mae Barber

Chester Mae Barber, age 81, of Kimberly, Alabama, passed away on Friday June 22, 2007. Funeral Services were held at Kimberly United Methodist Church with burial in Morris Cemetery. Bro. Butch Kilgore, Bro. James Ables and Bro. Arnold Kilgore officiating. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul K. Barber Sr., mother and father Era and Talton Harris. Survivors: daughters Paulette (James) Maze, Lynn Roberts, Owanna (John) Burns, Tracey (Larry) Sloan; sons Butch (Lynn) Barber, Shane (Kelly) Barber, Dusty (Linda) Barber, Foy Barber and Jed (Stacy) Barber, sisters Maureen Bentley and Gennie (James) Abel. Also survived by 29 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Orel Hays

Orel Hays, age 89, of Hayden, Alabama, passed away on Saturday June 23, 2007. Funeral Services were held at Gethsemane Baptist Church on Tuesday June 26, 2007 at 7 p.m. with burial in Gethsemane Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Sammie Reid and Bro. Chris Chamblees officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 26, 2007 from 4:30 p.m. until service. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday June 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Hays, parents Grady and Viader Love, brothers J.B. Love and Allbin Love sister Arzell Love. Survivors: son Dillion (Barbara) Hays, daughter Sue Warden,brothers Hoyt (Mavis) Love and Earl (Betty) Love, sisters Marlyn Cain and Willia (Walter) Loggins, sister-in-law Jewel Love and five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Judy Ann Shadix

Judy Ann Shadix, age 63 of Birmingham, passed away on June 23, 2007. She is survived by her daughters Teresa Abney (Horace “Peanut”) of Gardendale and Donna Cobb (Scott) of West Frankfort, Ill., grandchildren, Troy Cobb, Christopher Cobb (Brenda), James Cobb, Brent Abney and Bradley Abney, one great-grandchild and sister, Patricia Buckner of Cartersville, Ga. Service were held at the Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Walkers Chapel Memorial Gardens. Rev. George Hollis officiated.

George D. Howard Jr.

George D. Howard Jr., age 79 of Mt. Olive, was called home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2007. He was a member of Mt. Olive First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Chicago Bridge and Iron Company after 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Howard. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret Howard, children, George Barnett, Brenda Lee, Connie Guinn, Russell Howard and Linda Culver. 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, brother, Robert Howard. Services were held Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Rev. Doug Moore officiated.

Peggy Hudgins

Peggy Hudgins, age 73 of Fultondale passed away on June 25, 2007. She was retired from Charter Cable of Gardendale, a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Hudgins was an avid Alabama fan. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and the most wonderful grandmother in the history of mankind. A special thank you to her doctors: Dr. Doug Alford and Dr. Jeffery Hawkins and Dr. Raleigh Kent III. Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Robert A Hudgins, sons, Michael Banks (Anna), Roger Banks, Clayton Banks (Vicky), Barry Banks (Liza), step-son, Andrew Harris (Barbara), daughters, Missy Thomas (Jim) and Mary Brown (Dennis), grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle, Stephanie, Kelly, David, Shannon, Zach, Justin, Cody, Jason, Cody, Josh, Tyler, Noah, Dennis and Randall, several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her brother, James Hubbard and sisters Bonnie Belcher and Mary Garst. Graveside services were held at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.

Delitha Jerene Brewer

Delitha Jerene Brewer, age 86 of Mt. Olive passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.V. “Buddy” Brewer; parents, Jerry F. and Mary Lou Graham and by a brother, William Howell Graham. She is survived by her daughters, Verva Jean Hudson (Shelley) and Delitha Duncan; son, Roger Dale Coker; grandchildren, Valeta Neal (Butch), Randall Hudson (Paula), Susan Davis (Brent), Brandy Phillips (Tim) and Allan Coker; great-grandchildren, Blake, Brandon and Julianna Neal, Logan and Keegan Hudson, Bryeleigh Davis, Chad and Caleb Irvin and Hanna Phillips; sisters, Evelyn Gowins and Mildred Coker; brother, James Graham and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Wednesday June 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Graham Cemetery in Mt. Olive with Revs. Jerry Langford and Leon Zalenski officiating.
