Wilma married Millard G. Mann on Nov. 28, 1945, while Millard was still in the U.S. Navy and World War II had just ended. In September 1953, Millard surrendered his life to the Lord’s call to him to preach at Seventh Street Baptist Church, and was licensed to preach by Seventh Street Baptist Church on Oct. 7, 1953. A few days later, Millard was invited by his pastor, J. Gilbert Speak, to preach his first sermon from the pulpit at Seventh Street Baptist Church. At that time, Wilma came forward to accept Christ as her savior. She was baptized into the fellowship of the church. As her beloved husband pastored nine churches, his faithful wife stood by him as one of his staunchest supporters. Wilma was dearly loved by every church her husband pastored and taught Sunday School at the different churches always staying in her place as a pastor’s wife. Wilma was a loving wife, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Left to morn their loss when Wilma went home to be with the Lord are her husband of 61-plus years, Rev. Millard G. Mann; a daughter, Janice Mann (Jimmy) Greathouse of Hueytown, Ala.; two sons, Joseph A. (Luanne) Mann of Huntsville, Ala. and Timothy A. Mann of Hazel Green; a grandson, Scott (Bonnie) Mann of Huntsville; a granddaughter, Carmen Greathouse of Hueytown; a brother, Hansel (Joyce) McGriff of Cullman; two sisters, Jeanette Whitley of Cullman and Linda McGriff (Carlos) Wilhite of Vinemont; six wonderful, caring, loving caregivers: Alice Fay McGriff Dunn, a very special person, loving, caring, and Millard’s right arm in caring for his sweet Wilma for nearly two years who we will never forget the sweet person she is; Glenda Moses, who loved her very much and gave her loving tender care to Wilma for several months; Margaret Ann Runge, who showed her love caring for Wilma; Fay Bice, LPN, kind and sweet to Wilma in caring for her and her needs; Hilda Mosteller Calvert, a special person who shared her love for Wilma and Millard and who volunteered to help on Sundays and any other time needed; and Glenda Beason Henderson, a sweet, loving, caring lady who helped the family near the end.

You were all truly loved by Wilma and Millard. To these special people, you have a place in the family’s heart, God bless you all. We will never forget you, and many other relatives and wonderful friends. She leaves us all with an empty place in our hearts, but with wonderful memories as she has gone home to Heaven.

Pallbearers will be her five nephews, led by her grandson, Scott Mann, Mike McGriff, Mark Whitley, Jason Wilhite, Jimmy McGriff and Barry Atkinson.
