The Cullman City Board of Education postponed a decision on implementation of a four-year computer programming curriculum at Cullman High School Monday.
The Board voted unanimously to pull the item from the agenda to allow time to discuss details of the curriculum later, while approving all remaining new business agenda items. Cullman High School Principal Lane Hill said recently the program was in a developmental stage, and would probably involve an introduction to Java with C programming. The program would offer an advantage to students who want to study computer programming in college, he said.
In other business, the Board recognized new National Board Certified Teachers, David Benefield, Johnny Burks, Carin Rains, Angela Stansberry, and Elaine Williams, all of Cullman High School; Bama Turner of Cullman Middle School, Rita Dean of East Elementary School, Jane Ann Chambers, Keli Mickle, Anita Moore, Emily Price and Jana Thrasher, all of Cullman City Primary School; existing National Board Certified Teachers, Lori Andrews, Sue Freeman, Susan Sapp and Mary Yates.
The Board also recognized Cullman High School Varsity Cheerleaders for winning First Place in the Class 5A State Cheerleading Competition for the second consecutive year, and recognized the Cullman High School Varsity Boys Cross Country team for being runner-up in the State Cross County Competition and Section champions.
