An intermediate school adjacent to West Point Middle School should be open by February, said Bob Moody, the school’s principal.

Cullman County School officials said in September they expected construction of the school to be complete by January. Moody said Monday the school building was almost finished, with the exception of some minor details and paving the parking lot.

“The hold up is the parking lot,” he said. “If the weather cooperates, they should be getting it paved during the next couple of weeks.”

The 32,000 square foot, $2 million facility will consist of 13 classrooms, rest rooms and office areas for a school nurse and counselor, Cullman County Schools facilities accountant Judy Raburn said in September. Construction of the facility began in January 2005.

“They’ve got the trim work; they’ve got to wax and seal the floors, but they’re winding everything down,” Moody said.

Moody was principal at Logan School for the past 18 years before Jones Chapel and Logan Schools combined to form Harmony School. About 255 students who are fourth- and fifth- graders at West Point Middle School are expected to attend the new school.
