Joe Holmes

The funeral service for Joe Holmes, 65, of Falkville, has been changed due to possible inclement weather. It will be held at 3 p.m. Today, Jan. 7, 2007, at Peck Funeral Home. The Rev. Shaun Kennedy officiating.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in Chapel Piney Grove Cemetery in Falkville.

Mr. Holmes died Friday, Jan. 5 at Decatur Health and Rehab Center. He was born on July 26, 1941, in Morgan County to George Henry and Cora Lee Akins Holmes. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, David E. “Gene” Holmes, Paul W. “Buddy” Holmes and Charles Lee Holmes.

Survivors include a son, Shawn Holmes of Addison; two daughters, Tabatha Hart of Athens and Shannon Federer of Holly Pond; a brother, Freddie Roy Holmes Sr. of Somerville; a sister, Patricia Ann Coots of Falkville; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Todd Coots, Stacy Tapscott, Freddie Roy Holmes Jr., Mike Lawrimore, Drew Lawrimore and Jeff Copeland.

Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



Charles Vandal ‘Curly’ Moon

Memorial services for Charles Vandal “Curly” Moon, 85, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at the Colonel Cullman Museum.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moon died Tuesday, Jan. 2 at UAB Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1921, in Cullman and then migrated to Akron, Ohio, where he resided for over 55 years. He moved back to his hometown of Cullman in 2006. He was a talented musician and was in the Ohio Billiard Hall of Fame. He never met a stranger and will be missed by his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Brown Moon; his parents, Raleigh and Ora Moon; and a brother, Truman Moon.

Survivors include a son, Roy Moon of Cullman; a daughter, Joette (Gary) Nobinger of Huntsville; six grandchildren, James Moon, Jeff Moon, Steven Moon, Tracy Langseth, Beth Baird and Garian Nobinger; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.



Albert William Messersmith

Services for Albert William Messersmith, 82, of 1002 County Road 1466, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Warren Rueland officiating.

Burial will be in Cullman Memory Gardens. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Messersmith died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Messersmith, who was born Sept. 16, 1924 in Cullman County, was a veteran, having served with the Navy during World War II. He was employed for 50 years at Modernistic Printer, and was a retired press operator.

He enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, hunting, fishing and bowling.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Herbert J. and Adeline Dahlke Messersmith; brothers, Walter (Addie), Henry, Martin and Irving Messersmith, all of Cullman.

He was survived by his wife of 59 years, Esther Teichmiller Messersmith of Cullman; a son, David (Beverly) Messersmith of Hanceville; two daughters, Virginia (Rex) Messersmith Helms of Fairview, Donna (Greg) Messersmith Crabb, of Hoover; a brother, Edgar, (Bobbie) Messersmith of Cullman; a sister, Clara (Roland) Messersmith Polster of Rockford, Tenn.; three sister-in-laws, Edith, Doris and Margo Messersmith, all of Cullman. seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.



Harris Dudley Reid

Funeral services for Harris Dudley Reid, 85, of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. today at Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bro. Ray Latham officiating. Burial will be in Welti Cemetery. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Reid died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Reid, who was born Oct. 10, 1921 in Cullman County, was an Army veteran, and was employed at Cullman Cabinet as a cabinet maker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Glenn and Ida Pearl Copeland Reid; a brother, George Reid; a sister, Sarah Middleton and a son, Jimmy Reid.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Taylor Reid; daughters, Angie (Gerald) Tate and Donna Seibenhener; a sister, Betty (Frank) Smith; grandchildren, Kris Reid Hieber, Michelle (Tim) Kimbrough and Shannon (Kevin) Parker; great-grandchildren, Tess Kimbrough and Dakota Parker; a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.

Pallbearers will be the elders of Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Donations may be made to Welti Cemetery or Hospice of Cullman County.

Visitation will be from 6-9 a.m. today at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Welti Cemetery.



Robert “Bob” Hasenbein

Robert “Bob” Hasenbein, 76, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at his residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Moss Service Funeral Home.



Hazel Banks Ward Carlisle

Funeral services for Hazel Banks Ward Carlisle, 81, was held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Dr. Jerry Jenkins officiating, with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carlisle died Thursday, Jan. 4. She was born in Vernon, Ala., and moved to Jefferson County in 1941. She was a dedicated member of Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ. Hazel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked for Thompson Bootery and later as supervisor for McClain Manufacturing. Hazel was very active in the Alabama Bridge Association as partnership coordinator from 1967 until 1984, when she retired to look after her mother.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Edward Carlisle; a daughter, Jackie Carlisle Burkett; two grandchildren, Jay Douglas (Kathy) Burkett and Norman Ray (Charlotte) Burkett; and four great-grandchildren, Brian Douglas Burkett, Katie Nicole Burkett, Christopher Neil Burkett and Adam Tyler Burkett.

In lieu of flowers, it was Hazel’s wish that donations be made to Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ, 400 Roebuck Parkway, Birmingham, AL 35206; or to the Cullman Church of Christ, 4345 Alabama Highway 157, Cullman, AL 35058.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.



Gary Don Woods

Funeral services for Gary Don Woods, 60, of Vinemont will be Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Corinth First Congregational Methodist Church with Bro. Wayne Jetton and Bro. Bill Monk officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Woods passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at his residence with his loving wife, Claudette and two of his children, Darren and Kelly by his side. He was born Oct. 18, 1946 in Cullman County to Donald and Meval Woods. His mother proceeded him in death. Mr. Woods retired from Copeland’s after 30 years of service. He was a former owner of Woods Grocery in Punkin Center. He was a member of Corinth First Congregational Methodist Church. He loved his Lord and his family.

Mr. Woods is survived by his father, Donald Woods of Summerford Nursing Home; wife, Claudette Bullard Woods; son, Darren (Jennifer) Alan Woods of Danville; two daughters, Kelly (Tate) King McClean of Vinemont and Kendra (Shawn) Woods Antila of Lebanon, Ore.; six grandchildren, Lindsey (Jo) Woods of Hillsboro, Krystle Woods of Danville, Danielle (Nicholas) Walls of Hartselle, MacKenzie and Kayla Antila of Lebanon, Ore.; one great-grandchild, Chelsey Brooke Woods of Hillsboro; sister, Deborah (Johnny) Woods Childers of Akron, Ohio; two nephews, Jonathan and Jeremy Childers of Cleveland, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be Wade Looney, Kery Bullard, Larry Bullard, Al Bullard, Steve Bullard and Barry Bullard. Honorary pallbearers will be grandson Lindsey Woods and Nicholas Walls. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gandhi, Sandra and Ann.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.



Robert Brian Burns

Robert Brian Burns, 38, of Cullman passed away on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Woodland Medical Center. Visitation will be today from 8:30 a.m. till 10 a.m. Friends are invited to visit during this time.
