Esther Adeline ‘Addie’ Reid Messersmith

Funeral services for Esther Adeline “Addie” Reid Messersmith, 77, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Pastor Warren Ruland officiating, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery. She will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Messersmith passed away Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman on Dec. 21, 1938, to Benjamin Homer and Cora Magdalene Rabun Reid. She was loved by everyone and never met a stranger. Her home was always open to everyone. She will truly be missed by the many people whose lives she touched.

She worked at Office Equipment, St. Paul’s Lutheran School as a lunchroom manager and at Moore’s Texaco as a baker of her famous biscuits and cinnamon rolls. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, district president and reporter/editor of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, secretary/treasurer of Aid Association of Lutherans (Trivent), and past president of Hanceville Civitans. She was also a member of Cullman Bowling League, Jolly Sixties, Hardee’s Party Girls, Fellowship Club, member of the choir, Sacred Harp Singers, Ladies Travel Group, Ladies Aid, Sunshine Club and Sew ‘N’ Sews who make quilts for needy families. She also volunteered to bake birthday cakes for Hospice of Cullman County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 44 years, Walter A. Messersmith; three sisters, Ruth Reid, Daisy Reid and Evelyn Reid Lawrence; two brothers, Thomas Reid and Glenn Reid; and a great-grandson, Brandon Simms.

Survivors include a son, Steven (Clovine) Messersmith of Midfield; two daughters, Ruth Messersmith Phillips and Martha Messersmith (John) Cruitt, both of Cullman; three brothers, Claude (Sylvia) Reid and Herman (Nina) Reid of Cullman and Cecil Reid of Bessemer; nine grandchildren, Alyssa Phillips, Chandra Phillips, Misty Kay (Jimmy) Partain, James Ray (Kim) Messersmith, Aulton Water Messersmith, Christina Cruitt and Rebekah Cruitt; a stepgrandchild, Kristin Lumpkin; four great-grandchildren, Marida Simms, Jachelle Simms, James Calvin Messersmith and John Houston Messersmith; and special friends and relatives, Doris Messersmith, Betty Thornton and Helen McCain.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School Non-Member Tuition Fund, Hospice of Cullman County or Gideons International.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today.



Eunice Lillian Arrington

Funeral services for Eunice Lillian Arrington, 79, of Hanceville will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Bro. Andrew Chambers and Wayne Whisenant officiating, with burial in Union Grove Presbyterian Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Arrington died Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born on April 29, 1927, to Howard Edward and Vonie Jones Sims. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.C. Arrington; a son, Boyd Arrington; a daughter, Sharon Arrington; and two sisters, Ottie Bentley and Myrtle Bennifield

Survivors include five sons, Floyd (Carole) Arrington and Royce Arrington, both of Cullman, Glen Arrington of Ardmore, J.C. (Karla) Arrington of Homer, Alaska, and Tony Arrington of Fort Hood, Texas; five daughters, Hazel Culp of Holly Pond, Gladys Carr of Ardmore, Ruth (Don) Towers of Huntsville, Helen (Wayne) Whisenant of Morgan City and June (Jimmy) Haynes of Cullman; three sisters, Opal Burks of Cullman, Mary Creel of Joppa and Edna Deppens of Boca Raton, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.



Audrey Via

Funeral services for Audrey Via of Gardendale will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Blair Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Wednesday, Aug. 9 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Birmingham.



Gracie Mae Roberts

Funeral services for Gracie Mae Roberts, 87, of Vinemont are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. She died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Summerford Nursing Home.



Frank Eugene Suhr

Funeral services for Frank Eugene Suhr, 61, of Cullman are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. Mr. Suhr died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.
