The Cullman Police Department is searching for the man who robbed a gas station on Monday night.
The suspect entered the Chevron station at Highway 157 and Interstate 65 around 6:30 p.m. wearing a black trench coat and a dark hat. He jumped on the counter and demanded money.
He was armed with a weapon and opened the register. He left with an undetermined amount of cash.
“He just walked in and hopped on the counter,” said Sgt. Billy Handley. “The cashier backed up and let him open the register.”
A couple outside saw the suspect leave the store.
“They were getting gas,” Handley said. “They saw him leave, but something didn’t seem right to them. They went in and asked the cashier what had happened. She told them about the robbery.”
The couple then went outside to see if they could see in which direction the suspect was heading.
The suspect is a white male in his 20s. He may have been driving an older four-door bluish-gray Cadillac with bad shocks and springs and an out of county tag and may have been traveling south on Highway 157.
“We’re not sure if he was from out of town, or if he was a local guy who put the (out of county) tag on the car,” Handley said.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call the Cullman Police Department’s Investigative division. A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
