Cpl. Adam Robert Fales

Friends and family will celebrate the life of Corporal Adam Robert Fales, 21, of Cullman at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, in a funeral service at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home, with Gary O’Steen and Brad Hadley officiating.

Burial will take place at Straight Mountain Baptist Church in Oneonta, where Fales will be given full military honors. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Fales died Friday, Dec. 16, in Iraq. He was assigned to Combat Service Support Detachment-21, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station based at Cherry Point, N.C. He was serving a nine-month tour of duty in Iraq at the time of his death.

He was born on April 2, 1984, in Ocala, Fla., and moved with his family to Cullman County in 1997. The Fairview graduate was an avid football fan and enjoyed playing football in the yard with his father, Joseph and brothers, Jacob and James. He was a fan of the Miami Hurricanes.

Fales was a star running back and linebacker at Fairview under head coaches, Mark Britton and Phillip Gay. He rushed for 1,000 yards his senior year in 2001 and was named to The Cullman Times All-Area Team. He rushed for 300 yards in a game that season against West Limestone.

Fales turned down small college football scholarships to enlist in the Marine Corps. He dreamed of serving in the military as a child.

Fales also liked playing paintball and was a history buff. He planned on becoming a college history professor after his stint in the Marine Corps.

He also loved to spend time with his family. Attending family get-togethers was among his favorite activities.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edwin Fales, Glenn O’Steen and Billy Gene Scott.

Survivors include his parents, Joe and Glenda Joan O’Steen Fales of Cullman; two brothers, Jacob (Valerie) Fales and James Fales, both of Cullman; a sister, Christal Dean of Springville; his grandmothers, Joan Jacobs of Vinemont and Lee Fales of Ocala, Fla.; a niece, Emily Fales of Cullman; his fiancĂ©e, Tabitha Gordon of North Carolina; an aunt, Marie (Robert) Strong of Cullman; two uncles, Obie O’Steen and Jason (Mandy) O’Steen, both of Cullman; and many cousins.

Military personnel will serve as pallbearers.



Verley Gene Calvert Sr.

Funeral services for Verley Gene Calvert Sr., 65, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Dave Bradford and Gene Persall officiating, with burial in Cullman Heritage Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Calvert died Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 26, 1940, in Cullman. He was the owner of Wheeler Machine Shop.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Calvert; and a brother, Carl Ronald Calvert Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Baggett Calvert of Cullman; his mother, Golden Tipton Calvert of Cullman; a son, Gene (Crystal) Calvert of Cullman; two daughters, Linda (Tommy) Murphree and Martha (Jamie) Wilbanks, both of Cullman; a brother, Harley (Jan) Calvert of Cullman; a sister, Janice Attaway of Cullman; six grandchildren, Brent Daniel, Kayla Murphree, Madalyn Wilbanks, Amy Daniel, Lindsey Murphree and Karsen Wilbanks; a mother-in-law, Lottie Baggett; a brother-in-law, Thomas (Debbie) Baggett; a business partner, Steve Maxcy; a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.



Marion Rebecca Ingram White

Funeral services for Marion Rebecca Ingram White, 73, of Cullman will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Sacred Heart Convent, Fr. Thomas O’Connor officiating, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. White died Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 28, 1932, in Montevallo. She was a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert White; her sister, Jimmie Pauly; and her parents, Clark and Bessie Smelley Ingram.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Yates of Cullman; and a son, Billy Wayne Blackerby of Sarasota, Fla.

Visitation was Wednesday.



Wilburn H. Bice

Wilburn H. Bice, 89, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 14, 2005. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 in Houston, Texas. He will be laid to rest in Duck River Cemetery.

Bill was born on Oct. 14, 1916, in Cullman County. He was the son of Bertha and Homer Bice, the third of eight children. On Jan. 8, 1938, he married Sarah Giles. They began their lives together in Cullman County and later moved to Michigan where he had a career at General Motors.

Bill spent his life living for and loving the Lord. While in Michigan, he attended Temple Baptist where he taught junior high boys for many years. After retirement, they returned to Hanceville, where they joined East Side Baptist Church. He taught an adult Sunday School class, was involved in visitation, bus ministry and senior groups. Bill also loved gardening and fishing. As his health declined, Bill and Sarah moved to Houston, Texas, to be near family. As his health continued to decline, Bill never failed to share his love for the Lord, and his desire to be with him. His humor and laughter will be greatly missed.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Bill is survived by his wife, Sarah, of almost 69 years; two daughters, Vickie (Timothy) Baynes of Houston and Jan (Gary) Toporek of Charlevoix, Mich.; two sons, Rayburn (Susan) Bice of Petoskey, Mich., and Gary (Diane) Bice of Grass Lake, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Virginia Harris, Rachel Murphy and Vonda McIntyre.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Bice; his parents; and four siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gideons International Bibles.
