Warrios dominate Eagles on hardwood

West Point thrashed county rival Vinemont in ninth-grade boys’ basketball action 53-36 on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors led 17-8 after one quarter of play and never looked back enroute to a 17-point victory.

The second quarter proved costly for the Eagles, as they were outscored 20-4 in the period and trailed 37-12 going into halftime.

Vinemont did not manage to claw back into the game during the third frame as they were down 47-22 going into the deciding stanza.

West Point was led by McKinley Jones with 12 points, Jared Oldacre and Tyler Caldwell with nine, Cody Thompson and Caidea Bagwell with eight, Travis Overton with five and Derrick Basinger with two.

Thompson scored eight of his points in the first half, while Jones added seven in the same time frame.

Josh Wynandt and Tyler Creel each scored eight for the Eagles while teammates Dustin Holmes added six and Colton Yarbrough, MIchael Vickers and J.J. Smith chipped in two points each.

West Point hosts Cold Springs on Tuesday night while Vinemont hosts county-foe Good Hope for the first time this season.
