The Cullman Bearcats dropped their second game of the season with a 52-44 loss at Walker on Friday night.

Cullman (9-2 overall, 3-1 area), which debuted at the No. 5 spot in the season’s first Alabama Sports Writers’ Association basketball rankings, were beat up most of the game and couldn’t complete a late comeback over the Vikings.

Trailing 43-29 entering the fourth quarter, the Bearcats pulled within five points with 4:34 left in the game. But Cullman would not get any closer as the 12 missed free throws cost the team in the end.

Walker sealed the victory when Cullman’s Dylan Smith fouled out with two minutes to go. The Vikings completed a three-point play on the foul to seal the victory.

Jesse Bouldin led the way for the Bearcats with 18 points.

“I was impressed with the resilience of the team, especially Jesse,” said Cullman coach Mike Dean. “He didn’t have a good first half, but he came on in the second and had a good game.”

Also scoring for the Bearcats were Smith with eight, Carson Williams with seven, Josh Knight with seven, Jacob Dellinger with four and Raymond Segura with three.
