Prep volleyball roundup: Danville ends Holly Pond’s playoff run
Staff ReportsDANVILLE — Holly Pond High’s run in the Class 3A volleyball playoffs ended Thursday night when the Broncos were eliminated in a sub-state match by Danville.
Danville made the state tournament for the fourth straight year and will play Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Pelham Civic Complex.
The Hawks advanced by sweeping Holly Pond 25-23, 25-23, 25-21.
Jordan Spinks paced Danville (36-25) with 15 kills, while Kirby Wallace and Lindsay Simmons each had eight. In digs, Lacey Evans led with 15, while Wallace had 10.
Kimberly Lindsey led in assists with 18, while Kaitlin Wallace had 15. Kirby Wallace and Chelsea Keenum each had four aces, and Simmons and Keenum each had three blocks.
•Madison Academy d. Good Hope: The Raiders’ state tournament hopes came crashing down Thursday night in Huntsville.
Madison Academy swept Good Hope in three straight games, winning 25-10, 25-15, 25-10.
• Gaston d. St. Bernard: The Saints’ season came to an end Thursday with a loss to the top-ranked team in Class 1A.
Gaston swept St. Bernard in three games, winning 25-25-25, 10-15-20.
