Bulldogs up for challenge from Woodland
By Brandon ShieldsAddison will have its hands full tonight when Woodland comes to town for the second-round playoff matchup between the Bulldogs and Bobcats.
Bulldogs head coach Randy White said he is confident his team knows what it is up against.
“The thing about it is the players realize it is going to be a challenge for us this week,” White said. “Woodland has a good team that is quick and runs a no-huddle spread offense.
“The kids have done a good job this week watching the film and going through practice, and I think they are ready for a good challenge. We need to be ready for a good challenge, but so does Woodland.”
White said the weather has played a factor in Addison’s practice schedule this week, and it could affect the game also.
“We tried to go through a walk-through this afternoon on the field, but it was like walking on a sponge,” White said. “We had to take them into the gym two days this week and try to do what we could in there.
“The field will probably be still pretty wet for the game. It drains pretty well in the middle of the field, but it holds a lot of water on the sides.”
The wet field could prove to be an advantage for the home-standing Bulldogs, as they will try to run the ball.
“Wet weather is usually better for a running team if it’s going to be good for anybody,” White said. “It could force Woodland to run it more, but then again it might not affect them at all.
“We’ll just have to go out and work hard for four quarters and try to come out with a win.”
White said the coaching staff tried to fix some problems the offense had last week in scoring when it got close to the endzone.
“We like to score a touchdown when we get that close, and we had a hard time doing that last week in the first half,” White said. “We talked with the offensive line about doing a better job coming off the ball, and we wanted them to move the line of scrimmage down field 5 yards every time the ball is snapped.
“If we can do that, we will be helping ourselves a lot.”
Kickoff tonight is at 7 p.m. at Addison High School.
