Vinemont Appreciation Day coming Saturday
By Tiffany GreenThe Town of South Vinemont will have it’s sixth annual appreciation day Saturday from noon - 4 p.m. at the Cary C. Montgomery Scout Center.
There will be country and bluegrass music by Shadow Mountain Band and Willie Nelson impersonator, Wayne Abbot. There will also be planes, skydivers, horse and buggy rides, helicopters and games.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Angie Chambers, town clerk said.
The new storm shelter behind the Vinemont Fire Station will also be open for residents to get a look inside.
“We are having an open house for the new community storm shelter,” Chambers said.
The town recently opened the storm shelter which holds 86 people sitting and 110 standing. The shelter is designed to withstand F5 tornadoes.
The town received a 75/25 federal matching grant for $98,000, for two storm shelters. One is located behind the Vinemont Fire Station and another is located at the Providence Fire Station.
The shelters are set and anchored to a reinforced, monolithic concrete pad foundation. They feature three heavy duty locks on the inside of the doors and a separate keyed lock on the outside for security purposes. The powered ventilation provides 15 cubic feet of fresh air per person per minute per FEMA requirements.
Safe-T-Shelter, Aqua Marine Enterprises, INC, of Danville, AL, built the structure.
