Woman killed by truck while sitting on front porch

By Brittany Woodby

A Welti woman was killed in a freak accident Sunday night when she was struck by a drunk driver.

Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree said Doris Cronk, 52, died when a pickup truck crashed through her fence and hit her while she was sitting on her front porch.

“The pickup truck left the road, went through a wooden fence and hit (Cronk) while she was sitting in a chair on her front porch,” Murphree said. “It knocked a hole in bedroom wall and she was sitting against the wall on the outside.”

Murphree said Cronk was killed on impact and she was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 p.m.

The driver of the 2000 Chevrolet pickup, 32-year-old Olegario Moctezuma of Cullman, was not injured. Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden said deputies checked Moctezuma’s blood alcohol content and then arrested him for driving under the influence.

Alabama State Troopers, who were investigating the death, charged Moctezuma with manslaughter Monday.

He is currently being held at the Cullman County Detention Center without bond.
